Hi all, please can I ask what is a realistic MPG expectation from my MK1 Leon FR TDi 150 BHP ARL engine? I have read the forum FAQ and searched but I cannot find a straight forward answer.

Im not interested in non standard car results or crazy talk bragging such as "I get 70 mpg" nonsense just a straight answer. I want to hear from somebody who actually owns the same car if possible? I have only owned the car a couple of weeks and have had various faults sorted, cam and followers, coolant sensor, coolant aux heater glow plugs, full service and cam belt and it is running great now!

My question is what should the MPG be at this time of year on an A road run of about 25 miles, its a bit hilly, cat n fiddle etc? I am getting 37 average at the moment which I think is a bit low? I drive fairly briskly, the highest I have seen is 50 but that was nursing it on a carriageway.

my brother had 150bhp golf and got 55mpg max on average driving steadyish around 45-50 most times driving as the norm i.e little play here and there it used to recieve an average of 550 miles out of a full tank aswell

if im honest 37 mpg doesnt sound bad for A road driving as my brother used to travel 17miles each way to work so thats why he got 45's

Thanks very useful, I think its possible that people who claim 50 ish are driving flatish straight roads or doing long runs?

mind you 150bhp diesel engine they certainly very quick and very torqie engine's being a diesel and making 37-40 mpg average driving is superb 150bhp petrol would probo recieve 25-27 so big difference for the same output of power imo

just mentioned it to our kid and he brought up a good one.... with the std 16" alloys he also got silly figures i.e close on 55-60mpg showwing on a run when he fitted a set of 18"alloys 225/45/18 it instantly dropped on the dash panel doing the same driving same runs to he 38-40mpg.......

so should we ask how acurate is the dash panel maybe best way is to run it low fill it up then check how many miles to a tank etc just to put it to the test

Dont believe the computer, they're not that accurate.
Fill her up when the warning light comes on and work from that, my baby averages 600 miles with a mixture of motorway and A road driving.

I've had my cupra tdi for about 2-3 weeks now and im averaging 500-530 miles to a tank travelling 17miles each way to work.. often have to drive long distances and get 52mpg with cruise control at 85mph

Hello mate

Ive owned my leon From October untill now

dont always listen to the trip computer as it can chat a load of S***T sometimes

on a town run i avarage out around 40 to 45mph never seen no higher then that

the only time My Leon Fr tdi returns 50+MPG is when im on the motorway or on a dual carriage way

those people who are getting 60+MPG are chatting rubbish and if there is a geniuine person out there getting that kind of MPG

message me hhha id like to know how on earth u manage that :p

Long story short you should be getting 40+ MPG weather its mixed or normal town driving and dont expect to see the 50mpg for short journeys :)

Hope ive helped out mate and LEE has put the link to my thread on here you had a look ? its about the same MPG question

Being bit of sado I track my mpg on my iphone and my 150 averages between 44-46mpg of mixed driving and I am not particularly light footed!

do the same mate what app you using ??

and to be honest ive tested out the diffrence from when you drive like a absoulute crazy person and when you drive like a old granny

the cusumption isnt that bad

i got 41mpg when i was thrashing it and 49 miles to the gallon when i wasnt so theres not allot of diffrence

unlike My mazda 2.6 litre rx8 i owned which was giving me 19mpg just driving like a granny and i didnt even bother to look at the mpg when i was thrashing it :whistle:

Ha ha its too unbelievable that all that fun comes at no cost. 40 mpg is better than my 130bhp pd sharan I replaced! That did 39 ave. If u are getting 50 mpg u may as well be driving a milk float or similar! ha ha, get yer foot down!:D
