depends on how you drive but when standard i could get nearly 55mpg on a 10 mile run to work, which was mostly B roads and doing no more than 55-60 although you have to drive accordingly to get this as a bit too much right foot and i found myself getting 50ish mpg

i used to be able to get 600-700 miles out of a tank as well but it depends on how you drive it, and i don't have cruise control as well to help me

now its been remapped you can get the same figures but its much easier to also get lower figures, but i don't normally drop below about 43mpg unless i am stuck in traffic. managed 60mpg on the way back from south London over the weekend doing the speed limit all the way, and last year during a long journey stint i was looking at about 850-900 miles out of a tank of fuel

Got it done by a VAG specialist for £650 inc engine fllush and oil filter change. I had already done the cam belt days before tho so that save a bit of labour. Cams can be had from vwenginerecon.com for £300 ish. Then you need tandem pump seal, stretch bolts, cam cover seal and cam seal from dealer. I got it done for me because I truly could not see the point doing it myself. This guy had the tools etc already and a nice warm garage, he charged 3 hours labour :)

mark what wheels you got cupra R 1nz?????????

At the weekend doing A-roads and dual carraige ways (probably similar to your drive) I get low 40's if I'm giving it a bit.

I do long runs on the motorway mainly 70-80mph and get 53mpg on the computer. Never seen below 40mpg average but I don't drive really hard because the brakes are terrible  just saving for a 312mm conversion!

Cat n' Fiddle - good road, where are you based? I'm just west of Macclesfield

EDIT: Oh and in this cold weather when my car has been outside I get 35mpg-ish for the first few minutes, my car doesn't seem to like being cold! But it sounds like you do longer drives so the car should have a chance to bring the average mpg up to a decent level.

The other end of the Cat n Fiddle in Derbyshire. Its ruined now its got ave speed cams along it. Gues they had to stop those bikers injuring themselves somehow! Its an ace road to drive, it has wierd cambers on it etc. It is bloody cold here at the moment so I guess warmer weather will improve mpg further.

Ah, I've not been over it in a while...since I have no reason to other than a bit of fun! Not been over since I got the Leon but will have to have a cruise over sometime when the weather warms up a little.

Is there just one specs camera or lots of gatsos?

Thanks very useful, I think its possible that people who claim 50 ish are driving flatish straight roads or doing long runs?

Doing A5, M1, M25, A12 and some back roads, I get about 52 mpg driving back to Essex on a 100 mile run doing about 80 mph.

Driving 6 miles on the A5 and then 2 miles urban, I get 40 mpg on a daily basis. Bear in mind of course that for perhaps 3 miles of that journey the car will be cold and taking time to warm up, hence getting lower figures.
