Leon LED Headlight adjustment.

You'll probably find the left/right adjustment is just as bad as the level was. Those lines should converge out in front of the car, if they don't make a clear and neat pattern then the lights aren't set properly.

Yeah it's not a clean and neat pattern that's for sure when I was driving last night, I can see black areas in the pattern so doesn't look clean at all. Seat dealership have been useless so I guess ill have to play around with left and right but just don't want to mess it up. :/

I'll see if I can take a picture tonight to show you what I mean if it's normal or not. Whether my phone captures this I guess I'll find out.

If I have no luck I may just take it to my local garage and get them to sort it out as they do MOT's so should have equipment for it to test left and right too

When my FR arrived as new the PDI clearly did nothing with the headlights, both pointed at the ground and way off centre. Even now the self leveling function, with any rear loading, makes them point at the floor again

The beam alignment at an MOT tester is best but roughly, once you've got the level correct, then the dipped beams should overlap and converge around 30m in front of the car and the flat right half cover the oncoming traffic lane. In the image attached the road center line should be just to the right of the red vertical line.

Okay so I took some pictures tonight here is what mine look like. Do they look right? (RHD car)

I actually adjusted them up again tonight. Passenger left side is tiny bit higher. The led headlights on my dad's Skoda karoq are miles better when I drive it no black areas and really bright output and distance/vertical area too but I suspect it's just better hardware involved with that.

Individual LED reflector headlights cars like the Leon, or some others, tend to give a more diffused light pattern, when compared to the karoq, which I assume is the LED projector lens type headlights with a sharp cutoff? Perhaps just me, but is your right (drivers side) headlights a bit higher than the left? Just judging from the hotspot.

Yeah the Karoq does have a sharp cut off you're right compared to my facelift Leon.

Yeah so i realised after i adjusted them again, i didn't take another new pic my bad. I'll take another picture at night and post it again. As im pretty sure i made it so drivers side is level to passenger right side or even just below it. I'll report back! (The only picture i think i took after i had done the second adjustment was the 3rd picture but can't really make out the lines at the furthest point)

As when i was testing it after the second adjustment, only on a strong uphill b road the passenger light looked little more bright in his eyes but drivers side was fine he was saying in my dad's rear view mirror/side mirrors.

@BoomerBoom @KXL Kkay so here are picture of my new adjustment for moving it up slightly (3/4 turn for both overall instead of half and left passenger side being slightly higher and drivers side being slightly lower as per my previous post, much better light output for distance now but now sure if the vertical (left to right) needs to be adjusted? As doesn't seem to go out far enough left and right?

Any feedback would be much appreciated, thanks .

I too have always thought that my headlights are too low (2017 Leon Exellence), and with the benefit of hindsight I should have got the alignment checked whilst the car was still under warranty.

But never got round it it and dropped into my local MOT place this week instead. I explained that I thought that the beam was too low, and asked if they could move it up to the highest setting that would still pass an MOT.

However after they checked it, they told me that the beam was too high and that they had dropped it!!!!

I was not happy with this answer and asked why had they dropped the setting without asking me? Also how had the car passed 3 MOT's that they had carried out???

But this fell on deaf ears and I decided to take the car and try out the new setting, needless to say the headlights were even worse.

Went back the next day for them to recheck where I was accused to wanting the blind everyone, and that they wouldn't adjust the beam higher as it was at the legal limit. The bloke even said they was something wrong as the car does not have a headlight range adjuster, I realised that he was trying to BS me and told him that the car has self leveling headlights.

So I am stuffed as they / I didn't make a record of the alignment before they adjusted it + they are not willing to move the bean setting up any further than what they have done already!!!

My local VAG specialist said that they only have a beam setter for halogen bulbs and not LED. In the end I decided to give the adjusters a half turn upwards and I am impressed with the result + no one has flashed me on a quick 10 min drive tonight.

Has anyone else been through this? And is the only way to get them set properly is to go to a main dealer, who I assume has a beam setter that works for LED?
