i suppose thats one of the drawbacks of being part of a forum with so many different points of view. Everybody is not going to like the same thing, and leads to good discussion, good or bad.

I have to agree with you there. Had a couple of negative thoughts about the BTCC/Aero kit but I like it (you do as well seeing we have the same car :D) and that is the main thing.
At the end of the day that is all there is. Its your car and you can do whatever you want with it. It might not be to the tastes of everyone but opinions are like bums, everyone has one and that is what makes life interesting but you can put your opinion forward without being negative about things.

Iv'e had this on other forum sites that i frequent.... i'm very much of the opinion that if you like something then comment, if you don't then just shut the f*** up and get on with what you do like.... :p

I for example don't like the BTCC body kit or the 18" alloys that i could have had on my new FR, but I would never put that in writing.... oh b******* i just did.... :banned:

If someone posts a picture and asks for opinions, they are going to get opinions. Thats the nice thing about a public forum, although sometimes people are going to say things that others might not like even if they don't ask for opinions.

The other thing is that all the aforementioned "tat" that people add to cars is the start of the slippery slope to the likes of some of the stuff on barryboys.

For example;

Most people who spend £15-£20k on a car are not keen to add nasty stick on bits like naff body kits, light brows etc etc as it detracts from the OEM aesthetics, reduces liklihood of resale and therefore value, and to be honest looks crap.

In my opinion, every opinion is valid as long as there is good justification behind it.

The standard bumpers on the FR look really good imho anyway, the only thing I'd add to mine would be side skirts.

I presonally don't "mind" the BTCC / aero kit, but I'd never put it on my car. I don't think it would add to the appearance enough to justify it financially or any other way for that matter.

That poor escort! ^^

I tend to not like stuff that has no purpose. The vents of fakery on the Aero kit are what I don't like about it - i.e. they look as if they are vents to cool the brakes but they aren't vents at all... Other than that (and if the black plastic inserts were colour coded) I do like the Aero kit and might have spec'd it on my car.

But saying all of that I have changed the grille on my FR for a Cupra one... So does that make me Barry?!

BTW - What purpose do light brows serve?

I think it's good to be able to get peoples views both positive and negative.

For example somebody might be thinking about buying a Leon and considering the Aero kit. The oppinions on the kit on this fourm are mixed and to some extent reflects the oppinions of people in general.

That being the case the car with the kit could be difficult to sell but by seeing the negativity on the forum that person now has information to make their choise. If they love the kit they will still buy it but if they are more concerned about selling the car quickly in six months time for the best price and not losing so much money they may opt not to go for it.

The same applies to other extras, the iPod connector isn't great. People now have the information to make the decision as to whether or not its worth them going for it.

Thats a good point, Phil.

I think there is a fine line between what is considered cool and uncool... But as traumapat et al state it is personal taste.

I studied design at Uni and we were told by an insightful lecturer that all designers need to be slightly arrogant - if you are going to make alterations to your car for the world to see, you need to be too...

We were also taught about great architects, such as Le Corbusier, who considered surface decoration a meaningless travesty that distracted the eye from appreciating the true architectural form.

Perhaps the negativity is because the Leon is pretty out of the box and does not need surface decoration?!

I like the look of the BTCC kit but wouldn't have one on my car as I wouldn't want the extra attention it would no doubt attract.

Quick question though, is the kit available in black and does anyone have any pics?.

Yes the kit does come in black. When you order the kit all it has its the primer and you can get it painted any colour you want.
That JE Designs kit actually look quite nice on the Leon.

I think if you put something in front of a wide audience you have to expect criticism.
It would be a dull place if everyone just nodded and agreed.

I do think that some people could have more tact and replace "that looks sh1t" with "not to my taste".
