Hi guys

I have a Leon Mk2 and im going to be retro fitting HID lights.

I wanted to know whether i should go for the 35w kit or the 55w kit (personally i want 55w) also should i go for H7 bulbs or H7R.

What ever kit i go for will be canbus compatible.

Any suggestions of advice will be much appreciated.

Should i go for the Super canbus decoders?

Thanks in advance:D

I certainly woudn't go for 55w. 35w are bright enough as they are, let alone 55w ! And with the large open reflector in the Leon Mk2 it will spread way too much light.

Even if you get H7R its going to be WAY too bright.

The most popular HIDs kit here is the terminator one by hids-direct.com. People usually go for the 35W since it is strong enough and has less glare than 55W. I wouldn't recommend 55W since I have tried a couple of kits in my car (granted they were non-canbus but I have decoders/resistors) and they created a lot of problems for me and always flickered when you fire them up for a while and then stabilize. I have also read that they could burn the wiper motor and fry the wires, but it's a case by case issue and not a universal one.

I'd stay safe and buy the 35W terminator kit by hids-direct since everyone here seems to be happy with them and they work fine from day one with no issues whatsoever.

Since you have reflectors and not projector lenses, I'd go for H7R since I hear they reduce glare, and glare is a huge problem when fitting HIDs to reflectors.

I used decoders for a long time with non-canbus 35W kits and I can tell you that canbus kits are so much better and have less problems. Decoders also increase the warm up time of the HIDs and seem to weaken them a little bit, but maybe that's just me. I have been experiencing with all of that since I bought the car in March 2012 and what I finally settled for is a 35W can-bus kit (a good, quality one) with 6000K bulbs although I am going to be replacing them with 4300K ones soon.

Good luck with whatever decision you make, but my two cents are to stay away from 55W kits and go for a canbus 35W kit without decoders.

Got a 35W 6000k HID kit for sale for £35 if anyone is interested? It's the Terminator kit from HIDs direct, used for only 4000 miles.
