Just checked the Maintenance schedule that Paddy6789 provided and it shows

Front axle differential lock: Oil
change (only Cupra models) Every Three Years

Being dumb here is this the haldex diff and does anybody know if there is a filter as well.

I’ve just called my local dealer about this. Calling me back tomorrow after confirmation with master tech but I was told 4 years or 40k miles...

Begs the question as to why I was not told it needed changing when it was in for a 40k service in August! That’s DSG oil and LSD oil they have failed to inform me about

I've just had 4 year (slightly early) DSG service. Alex didn't mention diff oil as well so presumed it was all part of the service.
 
I was getting ready for a DSG Remap and I said to dealer I wanted engine, Gearbox and Haldex oil / Filter changes

They were happy about Engine and DSG but did not know about the Haldex one (for front wheel drive cars), they do now and going to change that as well.

As main dealers they should know this kind of thing. We rely on them to maintain our cars and it seems we are having to nudge them into thinking about it.

Unacceptable really.

There is a VAG specialist close to where I live and I expect they would know about this but come selling the car time main dealer history is key.

(You might be able to tell I’m not overly happy)

Agreed i wont be selling for many years just want to keep the running gear in good order as there is a lot more power going down the train.

The garage doing the map are a VAG specialist and they were not sure.

Anyway the moral of this story is don't trust any dealers, check yourself.

Hollis Motors have just called back. They say 4 years regardless of mileage ‍♂️

Thanks for that, as mine is 4 years I am on time according to Hollis and a year late according to documents from Erwin.

Maybe Seat changed there mind and deicded to extend the life of the oil :)
 
I rang awesome gti today and the recommend you change the diff oil every 20k and have done loads on the vw clubsport the price is £136 and they change oil and clean filter and strainer.
 
My dealer FIFE SEAT told me that the diff oil gets changed at 3 years, but that was only after I asked and the car had already had its 3rd service. I left it to 4 years as I will only hit approx 21000 miles by then and they agreed that would be ok, £111.12 was quoted.
 
So in summary the answer to one simple question is 3 different answers (I am old and grumpy so forgive me)

Hollis Motors say 4 years regardless of millage
Fife Seat say 3 Years
ErWin says 3 Years
awesome gti say every 20k

I will stick with the 3 years going forward.

And the dealers wonder why we use forums for information.

My car will have topped 50k miles by the time my service comes around in August
 
I don't really understand why VW in general make this information so difficult to find, I am sure back in the good old days your owner manual came with a maintenance schedule, now we have to pay (ERWIN) to get the latest and or trust a dealer to know what he is talking about.

It doesn't help that there are two different service schedules for the Leon - standard and long-life. Never really understood why this is necessary.

I think it's for people that will do high mileage. 20k motorway miles is not the same as 20k varied driving in terms of wear and tear.

I do however think for something like the Cupra that has bits of kit like the LSD and adaptive dampers, Brembo brakes in some cases, it should be checked with a yearly service. I expect most Cupra owners do get it serviced yearly but I think SEAT should make that the norm.

Thinking about it logically, I expect 3 years is correct for the LSD, Awseome GTI probably being cautious and Hollis are just wrong. We don't see many Cupra's In Dover, lots of 'normal' Ibiza's and Leon's around that don't have such specific equipment so there are not used to maintaining them. I had to explain to parts guy that the brake caliper had a metal plate with the word CUPRA written on it... I give up!
 
Anyone know exactly what the diff is? SEAT Tech said a form of Haldex. I'd say Haldex and the common Torsen put different stresses on oils due to the Haldex having clutch packs.
I wonder if the various dealers are getting confused?
