Hi everyone. Got my new MAF today and was about to fit it and realized that my old one has like a mesh on BOTH ends of the tube but the new has only on one end, What do i do? Please help as i need to fix it tonight!! ;)

that should be fine! I took the mesh off both sides of mine couple months ago as apparently it improves air flow and there is no problem.

if your worried you can pull the mesh off your old one

Ok, all done. Should my car drive better straight away or will a new MAF take some time to settle in? Coz i just went for a 2min drive and it feels LOADS better but still not perfect?

The mesh on the filter side is designed to be there to straighten the airflow past the MAF sensor (Laminar Flow).

I haven't yet had a Leon MAF with mesh on the TIP end.

I thought I read from some thread on here that the mesh actually creates more of a turbulance affect?? some guy had done loads of tests on an audi with same set up

Show us where that is quoted.......

Most people know little about how a MAF actually really works. If you study the design, you can understand how crucial laminar flow is................

THink that link should work I took the link direct out of a modifying airbox thread. Its quite a big article but its in there somewhere!

I admit I have no personal understanding of a MAF sensor.....however I know frm personal experience running with out the mesh has no negative affects so far:think:

That's a good reference (seen it before) and worth a read, but his Maf is a different design.
