Locked Keys in Boot

Now I don't think this should be possible, but here's what's happening.

When I unlock the car and don't get in, the car locks after a set period. (good)

When I unlock the car and open the drivers door, the car won't lock itself at all. (good)

When I unlock the car and open the boot, the car locks itself after a certain period, when you shut the boot obviously all the doors and the boot need to be unlocked by the keys again. (Bad)

Now I recently had some accident damage fixed (on the boot) and am wondering if they have broke something.

Without testing, that sounds normal. I take it your drivers door is not open now?. You got a spare set of keys?.

hehehe reminds me what i done in my astra coupe. I opened the doors put the keys in the ignition and turned it to position 2 (one before starting the engine) closed the door and few moments later all the doors locked. Problem is the spare key wouldnt work couldnt open the door or the boot had to get the RAC to break into my car lol

No, not normal. I bet the boot light isn't working either.

It might not be down to the accident damage, the whole MkIV golf platform is reknown for the rear wash wipe leaking onto the boot lock.

What's happening is you're unlocking the car and opening the boot, but the cars not detecting you've opened the boot, assumes you've unlocked by mistake and relocks - just like the first scenario you mention.

Warranty job if you have any.

Yup, that's exactly the scenario.

I will check the boot light.

But I do have a warranty, although think it will mean dealing with bloody autoworld chesterfield again

I have the boot trim off on mine already, no leaks or had any in the past, boot light working etc.. if I open the boot it sometimes locks after a set period if the drivers door is shut and I have not started the ignition.

Not sure if it's faulty but then I've never had a reason to think otherwise like leave my keys in the boot. I unlock and put them in my pocket

It usually don't lock it self, unless the doors are not opened.
So, unless you some how manage to get the keys in, without opening the doors, that won't be a problem.

I've always been under the impression (given by the dealer) that this is correct - the car will stay unlocked only if you open a door, not the boot.

Yes mine is the same, locks again even with the hatch is open, you need to open a door to stop it locking

that a relief...i can imagine myself havin 2 leave the window open all the time coz im desperate 4 leavin the keys stuck inside!

Yep - the boot autolocks after 30 secs or so - i've heard this happen when I've been dropping someone off and press the button to unlock the boot for them - 30 secs later you can here the lock operating to re-lock

Fixed under warranty boot switch was broke.

All works exactly how it should now.

Opening the boot cancels the relocking of the car.

that is normal - i believe as does same for me &
even when your in car with ignition on, press the door unlock button the boot will unlock but lock after 15sec (guess work here as not timed) if you haven't opened the it
