Looking to buy a Cupra R soon.. What to look for?

Ok where to start?
Great cars these are, u have the passenger side water leaks, occasional coilpack failures and MAF problems, but not too much else.

Remember they are turbos, so try and run the car on tesco 99 or Vpower. May take a couple of tankfuls to notice, but you will notice. The pricier fuel works out a fiver extra over the course of a tank, so pennies really. As I said its a turbo, so drive careful on start up/run down. According to my boost gauge takes around 5 more minutes (after water is at 90*) for oil to be running at correct temp.

These are VAG cars so if you can get the best mods. All mods on VAG cars are pricy (this no exception), cheap eBay parts and u asking for trouble.

A remap will see (these days) 270+ on stage 1 and 300ish on stage 2. Best investment? HIDS 100%.

Other than that, watch that splitter its low. Even lower when you're like me and 30mm lower than standard. Service regular and she will be fine.

Iv read up on running turbos a bit cos iv wanted one for years. You have to let it warm up first, and also after a decent run let it tickover for 60 seconds? To cool down.

Thanks for the info! i was gonna get a 1.8T golf which is almost same engine so i know a bit about mods n stuff. But like i said mods wont be on my to do list straight away!

Depends how hard you rag it mate. If you rag the car and turn it straight off, on this car anyway you can hear what sounds like water running, which I assume is the car doing what 'you' the driver should of done lol.

I would say a few minutes mate. Obviously don't floor it in high gears (to prove how torquey it is) this will ruin your rods etc.

Warm her up, service well, good fuel, drive it as intended, cool down...happy

Okay nice one mate! Id deffo look after it Do any of ya run turbo timers? My dad used to have one on hid 4x4 was a good piece of kit! Can lock car n walk away n it turns itself off after however long you set it to.

I just hope i get a good one when i buy, cos iv fallen lucky with all my cars til now i just end up buying the first one i see! Id be more careful with these tho cos itll be my most expensive car yet

Dunno bout turbo timers mate, I'm sure some folks have em. I had remote engine start a few years ago and that was a brilliant mod!!!!

The oil takes twice as long as the coolant does to warm up, so when it says 90 on the dash gauge do that time again to warm up the oil.

I drive the last few miles of boost, have done the past 4 years, works for me.

Usually takes about 15 minutes for oil to get up to operating temperature (sometimes longer on a really cold day).

My lcr does about 30miles to a tenner, i only use Vpower or Tesco99.

Yep a single note with '10' and the queens ugly mug, will get u exactly 30 miles before you get the dreaded (also shockingly loud) BEEEEEP from the low fuel reading, when you drive around town. Technically it's 60 miles to a tenner, but when it hits 25 to empty, prepare yourself dude!!

Oh and one more thing. The fuel tank in this car is weird. ie 80-90 miles BEFORE it comes off 'F', then 160 is halfway. From halfway to empty, your looking at 50 miles looooooool

Probably the worst thing for a turbo car.

Yeh I live 6 miles from work and I take the longest route always, due to 2 factors a) so the car has had at least 20 mins at operating temp. (no one wants a 'sweating' engine...and b) cos of the road surface, less traffic lights and more 40 and 50 roads etc....

Short journeys you may aswell get a crappy car

Cant help it lol wel my work is 8 miles all ring road which is okay but only take 15-20 mins. And my gym is 5 miles (abt 15 mins). Cant help it that i dont drive far! Do u guys not ever drive to your supermarket or anything close?

My work is about 6 miles away, however i drive the long way. 27miles. nearest town is 9 miles away, i do a small town 'lap' before stopping.

Sorry but i cant see everyone with a cupra driving it for at least 20 mins every journey. If i just dont rag it on the short journeys i dont see why there would be a problem

Oil needs to be around 90 degrees to protect at its best. cold oil being heat cycled low and often breaks down and can cause premature wear particularly on the turbo journels.

And as a short journey car sees alot more cold start enrichment, the oil becomes alot more fuel contaminated, fuel breaks down oil, thus causing damage etc etc

Also, if you dont mind me asking/Trying to elighten you, Are you fairly well paid? As servicng costs can cost alot. i.e set of front brake discs is £200 alone. and rears are nigh on £100. drivng a car that little, id be servicing every 3/4 months. as the oil will be past it.

Rear Pads £50
Clutch and flywheel £650

19 weeks of fuel ~ £90/tank £1710

Tax £270/year

Total £4520.

Thats not including labour either. Im an ex-renaultsport tech, so all the work is done by me.

I agree. These are hot hatches, and need looking after. We not saying you always have to go the long way home, but me personally I enjoy it, as I get to floor her more. I don't do many miles 6000+ but I drive it on good roads.

Spent a lot on my car, and I researched long and hard with various servicing, tyres etc etc. could never put cheap crap on my car. All we are saying is a turbo car deserves some respect with regard to 'when' to floor it ie if your motor is particulary fast, and longevity and maintenance.

As has been said, can bring many many smiles to your face, but on the flip side can hurt your wallet if servicing gets forgotten etc etc.

Uv gone through 8 tyres, a clutch and flywheel, 4 oil chnges etc.. All in 4 months? You must thrash f*ck out of it! You said change oil every 3-4 months not weeks lol
