I agree. They are very reliable *touch wood* if you look after them. Dan is giving worse case scenario.

Sent from my iPhone when I should be working....

Ive had 2, one needed work, one didnt.

So its a 50/50 chance in my experiece

But yes, Im just giving an insight to what they can potentially cost.

Poor lad just cancelled his order!!! To be fair if you research everything before hand you shouldnt have any suprises tbh.

2 words 'mechanical sympathy'

On the MLR We had a ownership cost calculator, we should do something on here similar really.

But yes, if we put in 1 thread, our average costs vs mileage in theory we can help potential owners not have any nasty surprises.

i live 3 miles from my work. warm the car up, drive there off boost and thats that. then blast it once a week to and from the supermarket which is about 25 miles away. that is a typical week as such. never had any problems yet (touch wood).

i also had an evo 5 before this and there isnt a huge difference in costs between the 2. if anything i found the evo parts cheaper to get (i did know a guy ;-) )

keep on top of oil changes/ servicing and dont boost when oil cool and everything should be good. hopefully. ;-)

Sounds like thats what ill do :) let it tick over for a few mins before drving 8 miles to work off boost, n take it on a gud drive once a week at least! I so miss having a car i take for pointless drives just cos i love driving it!! With my current car its just an a - b car which is pants!! Cant wait to have another car i can make my pride n joy!!

2 oil changes a year, are you serious?

One a year with top grade fully synth has done me no hard, although I only do 5-7000 miles a year

So 5-7000 miles a year is approximately half average miles. And you do how many oil changes mate? One. Which is ooh about half of what I said which fits your mileage perfectly! :p

If you drive like a girl then one change per 10,000 miles is probably cool. I like to rag mine a reasonable amount, so do it every 5000 miles. Whats 40 quids worth of oil compared to 1000s for an engine rebuild?!

Fair point that! If u drive it hard, look after it more... Fair enough!

I've learned the hard way mate!

At one point there were two of my dead cars stacked on top of each other outside my mates garage! Lol :)

I've killed everything from engines, gear boxes, diffs, complete cars etc etc etc. In fact I've only ever sold two cars on cos all the rest have died :(

Haha how come? U must love speed lol i used to have a 160bhp stripped saxo was a right beast but after 3 months it started to show its true french colours breaking all the time (although mainly due to it being so low (2 inch ground clearance) i used to drive it like i stole it til i nearly got banned one night being stupid with 2 vtec civics n since that i changed! I really would look after a lcr and probs wouldnt drive it anything like you drive yours haha. But you obvs have more knowledge mechanically to fix things yourself cheaper and stuff!

Nah I've got a mate with a garage! He knows pretty much all you need to know about vag cars :)

To be honest I have calmed down hugely the last couple of years mate. Hence I actually managed to sell on my last car! :)

I did used to give my cars mucho abuse though. Drove it like I stole it pretty much all the time. I had a gorgeous Alfa 156 GTA 3.2 V6 a couple of years ago. One day I was being a bell end and basically showing off and revving the nuts off it, then bang! Diff shattered and took the gearbox with it. 2 grand. Then couple of months later, ragging it with the mrs having a laugh and bang! Cambelt snapped and took the gorgeous V6 with it. 4000 quid to rebuild :(

What a car though. And what a noise! :) (carbon intake and Italian exhaust etc)

You said you nearly got nicked. I had a mega tricked up corrado vr6 ages ago that got me a section 59 or whatever it's called. The locals didn't like the noise or the way I drove.

After that it dawned on me that I should probably grow up a bit as once you've got a section 59, next time they pull you they take your car! :(

I'm also a right old fart now and a "professional" so I have to at least pretend to be mature :)

Aw sorted! Iv gt a handy mate too hes nt a mechanic but hes built his own ICR with hybrid turbo n everything so he said he could help me whenever :) plus he'll be the one going with me when i buy one!
Ouch! Sounds lyk a beast tho! How come ur currently on a seat leon then? Must be a good car!

I just cant wait for the turbo sound! Iv been close to getting turbos before but never got one, i nearly got a Glanza instead of the saxo but didnt as theyre import only but i was in love with the noises they make lol.

I was lucky that the 5-0 came on the opposite side of the dual carriageway so they wasnt behind me when i was speeding so no proof! Was doin 120 on a 49 dual carriageway tho!! With a decatted straight through exhaust! Popping an allsorts at side of a residential area.. Doh!!

Haha same i shat me pants after that! Everyone loves power just gotta be more grown up when ya use it!

I'm not arsed about badge or so called prestige mate. My last motor was a V8 5 series BMW but I would rather drive the LCR any day of the week. Just so much more fun to drive! And mine is way quicker than the Beemer was. I only bought the Beemer because I wanted to own a V8 at some point in my life :)

It did sound good. But pretty boring to drive if I'm honest.

The LCR makes me laugh every time I drive it :)

Also if something breaks I'll replace it. It's a different story with something like a BMW due to silly costs for repair etc.

Hard to enjoy a car when you're crapping yourself at every noise it makes! Lol

Haha sweet! jeez bet that was a guzzler! lol

What do you love about your lcr the most? Iv always loved them! Never thought id be able to afford one though! The 2 cars iv always loved are the LCR and the Honda civic type r (EP3) :) i hope to get to drive one of those at some point! although after owning a lcr i may not even want one we'll see lol.

I cant wait for the drive home when i pick one up!! Its the best feeling ever picking up a new car espesh something as fun as that!
