Loss of power - help!

Had to drive down to St Ives this weekend and on the way down the car went into limp mode. Pulled over and had a quick look and couldn't see anything missing/unplugged/burning etc so I called the RAC out. Hour latter a nice RACer shows up and has a look at the turbo and the intercooler and can't see anything wrong. He takes it out for a spin then asks me to go with him. All the power is now back!

Any ideas on what would cause this?

It was fine on the way back BTW.


The RACer while driving it asked me what I had under the under when he drove it - the shove in the back startled him a bit!

Oh and on the way down I used 3/4 of a tank (280 odd miles) - used only half on the way back...

How so?

Had the same map (well, company) on my old golf tdi and that was rock solid. Could it be heat soak on the SMIC?

Could be one of may things without more detail on driving speeds,temp etc etc, you need to do a VAG COM check really. Unless it happens again i shouldn`t worry to much as an ECU tends to be quite female i.e tempera mental at times for no real reason.

The engine temp was fine. As for driving speeds, well i wasn't hanging around

Could have been Intake temps getting to high for the SMIC.

Mine reached 90degrees in a few secs and went into limp mode aswell a few times.

Fitted a FMIC and everything was fine since...
