Thanks, I could even remove the plastic part in front of the oil dip stick. It seems the screws head just wont turn as the screw head is damaged. Any ideas?
Thanks I could'nt remove the screws. In the end after contacting Seat Windor and Seat Camberley. I settled for specilist called AVIT in slough to perform the work. They did an excellent job and the price was better than both dealers, if anyone needs it doing speak to Sunny at AVIT. Thanks.
trying to change the coolant temp sensor on my mk1 leon 1.9tdi at the moment, but really stuck with getting the electrical plug off the back of the old sensor. how do they unclip (getting the sensor out doesnt look to be a problem).
thanks for the otherwise excellent post.

The assembled connector looks like this
You need to pull the locking clip backwards to release the connector.
The disassembled connector looks like this.
End-on, the wiring plug shows a bit more detail of how the locking clip is formed.
