Today I did abit of electrical work by fitting a switch for my amp. Just used a rear heated window switch and put it onto the remote wire from the headunit. It means I can now control if my amp is on or off.
Reason for doing this is that I want to try and save my battery and plus I dont use my sub all the time. I dont use it if Im listening to the radio or I didnt want the amp to still be drawing power from the battery if Im only listening to the radio.
And the switch works, which Im happy about. Its been fitted underneath the switch for the rear heated window switch.

I've not really noticed that much difference in Petrol consumption of the 1.4 to my 16v. On the motorway I think the valver is probably more economical if anything, managed 39mpg as a tank average last fill up.
Its just the sitting in traffic that really hits me hard, but if you wont be doing that then you could still be reasonably economical when using it day to day (although the temptation to give it a poke is always there, I think I am addicted to acceleration).

Thats the thing, If I got a valver or a leon/ibiza cupra I would always want to give it poke pretty much everytime that I would drive the thing, hence why right now it wouldn't be very practical etc as I use my car for a 100 mile round trip to college and back, roughly 50 each way. I may look at the situtation again in June/July as I will be finished my apprenticeship by then and wont have college to go to.
Today I started cleaning out the rear arches, only got one done though because it started raining. 
I will post up pics when I do the other side, only got 2 of the side I did, never got any before I started though.
I have to say I must be lucky with my Ibiza. 10 years of mud under the arch-liners and it was soaking wet, but I dont have any signs at all of the rust problem. No rust under the arch liners or anything. A tiny bit where the metal ends but thats it. It looks so much better now and its clean now. Just need to do the other arches and the rest of the car.

get some kurust up there anyway and then spray up there with some sort of sealer if your sure its a ok

Only have a pic of the drivers side dirty because the passenger side was clean before I decided of taking pics, but the passenger side was dirty exactly the same as above.
This is the mud that fell when I removed the drivers arch liner:
There wasnt that much fell from the passenger side, there was hardly any.

And I know my backbox needs alittle attention, going to weld a bit of sheet into place.
The fronts are going to be done sometime.
Also fitted my gti interior light today. I still have my rocker cover and manifold heat-shield to paint. And the plan is to make a battery cover up at work at some point. Considering fitting a better cold air system into the airbox, considering aluminium/silicon piping with a cold air feed directly onto the end of it. Still thinking of getting spacers and Im unsure what to do with the interior.

Looking good, thats a lot of mud lol. I was asking my friend if he could make me a up a battery cover where he works
I was going to buy one but some of the prices of them I could easily make one up much cheaper. We have plenty of offcuts of sheets etc which I can use.
Dont know if I should go stainless or paint it black, which I was thinking of doing to match my rocker cover. Im undecided with that aswell, dont know if I should do it red with a black stripe down the middle of the rocker cover or black with a red stripe. Decisions Decisions
Think I have had a lucky escape.
My car was in the garage today getting the timing/cam belt and adjuster/tensioner and the power steering and alternator belts done. When I picked the car up I was told that it was no safe as the timing belt was loose/flapping about as the adjuster wasnt working correctly. My mechanic didnt know how it hadnt broke.. He said it was because the adjuster hadnt been changed the first time it had been done. Also I was informed I need new bolts for the cam pulley as the person who changed the belt the first time took a chisel to them and they are well and truely shafted. And I need a new backbox, but I knew that already.
Ive lost interest in the Ibiza. Dont know if its cos I dont know what to do to it next. Need to get the love/interest back again!

you could always get a cupra to get the interest back
I know, I have thought about it but I couldnt justify it yet as my car is an everyday car. And Im still in my apprenticeship so my wages aint exactly brilliant yet.
You'll always come in and out of interest mate, more often when you have a bad run a bit like today, My interest in mine has tapered off since the bump and will probably stay that way until next year when the weather picks up. Winters shite for cars, you have to be careful in them due to the weather and you dont go out unless you have to coz its so bloody cold and dark.
However i've been sat thinking today coming up with some great ideas to finnish her off and come some warmer weather (or a cleared out heated garage) i'll get her looking amazing at which point she'll move on or become a toy. I've only parted company on good terms with two of my previous cars (cordy and MK4 Polo) and i'd like this to be the third.

I know what you mean about winter, I have a few things I need to do but its never the weather to do it. You should turn your gti into a toy next year, that would be a good idea.
I have to go out as I have to go to work, dont go to work, dont get paid and I need every penny I can get just now, expensive few months coming up.

Love them! Thing is its like everything, if you are going to have one you have to have the best one (Like when I got a cupra I had to have a valver) so that means a VR6.
Again not going to be especially economical - but when has economical ever been fun.
