please can someone point me in the right direction.

thanks

Follow the outlet of your airbox, and there should be a plastic pipe with a electrical plug into it.

The black thing that breaks up the red piping is the MAF.

thanks ric, i will have a look tonight, am i right that i unplug it, drive around for a short while, and see if my car runs better!!?.

I also have this problem, which has been slowly getting worse over the last month. I unplugged my MAF yesterday and the car performed like a dream (as it should do), but the dash warning light is still on after I plugged the MAF back in.

Firstly is it normal for the light to remain on and secondly, how long is it safe to drive round with the MAF unplugged?

I would advise getting it changed as soon as possible really, the car will run on reduced boost settings i believe i read somewhere else. Basically the MAF calculates the mass of air entering the car and thus it allows the car to work out the correct amount of fuel to use. Thus if you leave it unplugged it will not be able to adjust these readings i presume which could lead to the car running too rich/lean... thats my understanding of it, but try to remember i quite often dont know what im talking about.

P.s well done for using the search :p

If your light wont go out just take the earth of the battery for a min, will turn the light off.
