They definitely sound different on the outside. Sitting in mine I get a light suck noise from the turbo and a hissing from the dump valve at low revs /speeds and a strong induction noise at high revs / full boost. Exhaust and engine seem focused inwards and outside noise like tyres and wind noise are cut out.
Apparently it's got a much deeper, booming rumble from the outside though, although mine does have a Miltek exhaust. I came home from work the other night, I thought I was being quiet as a mouse, but the missus heard me come down the street, park, restart the engine and repark to get a bit closer and straighter to the kerb. Whoops.
At least it sounds good, unlike a barry'd Saxo with a cannon exhaust!
