hi guys, just thought id ask the question before i take it to the garage

over the past few days i can hear metal vibrating under the car when i slow down and revs are dropping. it tends to happen at around 3k revs.

am i right in guessing this is the CAT???

if so does this mean the cat is on the way out or does the cat have a gaurd on it that may be causing the vibration.

currently have a stage 1 set up, is it worth investing in a decat if the STD CAT needs replacing??

cheers

Probably the heat shield round the cat, mine rattles/vibrates when im sat in traffic etc, I noticed it was loose when i fitted a lambda sensor spacer, just need to find something to replace the little nuts that holds it up tight!!

Sounds similar to an issue I've been having recently. However I only notice the rattling when the engine is warm (and at around 2k revs).

Would this also suggest a loose heat shield issue? I'm assuming it may do due to the effect of adding heat!

Just hoping its not the DMF as I've been reading similar symptoms for the fly wheel probs.

Hoping to have a look under the car at the weekend.

Same problem here mate, in fact there's a video on my readers ride with the sound on it. It happens just before the revs drop to idle and does my head in because it sounds crap! It's slowly got worse too, I thought it might be the sump tray so going to jack it up this weekend and have a look.

Same problem here. Was so bad today is was rattling constantly on idle. Took it to the garage today and managed to get under the car. I checked the exhaust and the same rattle was the Cat heatsheild. The retaining bolts had rotted so we removed it. Might put it back on tomorrow though as I got excessively high exhaust temp readings from my liquid gauge without it.

Deff sounds like the cat shield. Identical issues to how mine was at the start

Sounds like an easy fix, need to get it sorted as it makes the car sound shite. Thanks for reporting back

I've got a rattling, but not sure if its the same... Sounds like a low metalic sound, coming from what seems like directly under the gear lever area if that makes sense, seems to go when warm but is always apparent in the first few minutes of driving especially low down in the revs...

Any ideas?

This is your demon

Screws...just....gone

Started to secure it with this metal wire (wrap and wrap and wrap for more tension.)

Then crimped

This was supposed to be a temp fix but I did this about 6 month ago and it's still secure so...

Mine didn't rattle when accelerating. It only did it when I was idling.

Get under your car and touch the shield. You will be able to tell if it's loose or not.

Got mine up on ramps on Sunday. Inspected it for ages, found nothing loose. Sounds like the rattle is coming from inside the exhaust at the front  progressively getting worse too.
