Michelin Pilot Super Sport feedback

After over a year of having the old Bridgestone Potenzas I've found the Cupra pretty dull and unresponsive, full of wheel spin and axle tramping in most conditions meaning I haven't used full throttle for a long time. Me and the Cupra haven't Clicked for a long time as a result I was close to just selling it.

BUT along comes the day when all 4 bridgestones need replacing and the choice was the pilot Super Sport . What a transformation , even after 150 miles with them I have more grip and they haven't even bedded in yet. Wheel spin and axle tramp only occurs to a minimal extent if it's cold and the road is slightly greasy/ moist. Makes me wonder why Seat don't sell these as standard.

I've had michelins before - namely the PS2 and PS3 - the former of which faired much better than the latter but both didn't last particularly long . I hope the PSS last at least 10k miles from the early stages the performance is second to none and for a price similar to the bridge stones . Can recommend if you are experiencing similar problems then the rubber really counts, especially when the power is nearing the limit to justify AWD .

Yep, I agree as I have said many times the PSS is THE tyre for Cupra owners.

Very, very soon, the new Pilot Sport 4S is released (launched in 235/35/R19) and they supersede the Pilot Super Sport.

When the weather warms up you will really find the SS's improve. I stuck 4 on our Citroen DS4 a couple of years ago to replace the PS3's it came with from the factory (they were on offer and cheaper then the PS3's!). They are amazing in warmer and drier weather but tail off in colder and damp conditions compared to the PS3's, had Kumho Ecsta hs51's on our Abarth 500 that were better in the cold and wet than the SS's BUT the SS's are a great performance tyre, much better than anything Bridgestone has ever made, also much quieter than the Bridgestones on my Leon. They SS's on our DS4 (200thp engine that is never really gently driven) have done about 12k now and got a couple of thousand miles left on them (have got a BMW i3 being built as I type to replace the DS4 so won't be replacing them myself!).

When you say they are out, is that on the 18" wheel, as when I bought my PSS,s the new PS4S ones were only available up to 18"

Some confusion here.

You are talking about the
Pilot Sport 4

Others are talking about the

The 4 is the replacement of the PS3 also using PSS tech and better than the PSS except a little bit slower in yhe dry and available up to 18".
The 4S is the straight PSS successor and better across the board and for now only available for 19" and above (same as PSS which initially only was available for 19“ and above also).

Pilot Sport 4S was not available at all when I bought my tyres, as was only launched in Jan I believe, I got that 18" size comment from someone on here I think, sorry for the confusion.

After swapping to PSS from PSC2 I have done about 14k miles on my 280 with a mix of motorway and occasional "spiritied driving", the fronts are about 1mm off the breakers the rears are about 2.5mm off.
In contrast the PSC2 lasted barely 10k before hitting the breakers.

Completely echo the comments here. PSS's have transformed my Cupra to the extent where I now drive it so much harder as I simply have confidence in it. Yes, in the slush the other week they were - ahem - exciting, but still wouldn't swap them!

I'm on 10k miles on the fronts and I still think I have at least 3mm of tread left so I'm not going to be far off the 14k I got from the bridgestones.

Agree- I was unimpressed with the cupra on Bridgestones - I'd even go as far to say I hated it, struggled to grip all the time, axle tramping did my head in and made the power seem pointless. The PSS tho really put the power down well and the cornering has more confidence..

I even level pegged against an AWD Impreza form a stand still , so much better. SEAT make the PSS OEM and forget the potenzas !

I agree just put pss on after bridgestone and its a different car in both wet and dry. Looking forward to trying the 4s as they sound even better
