Misfire and throttle body?

Short Story
Could a dirty/faulty throttle body or fast idle valve be the cause of a misfire?

Long Story
Yesterday my mk2 arosa started to stutter and when I tried to accelerate and then my engine management light came on.

I've just had to down to the local garage to check the fault codes and it didn't stutter on the trip to the garage. Turns out it was a misfire on one of my cylinders, I was surprised I didn't realise as soon as it happened. Anyway the garage cleared the code and its running fine now

The garage quoted all the different things that could be the source of the problem such as a spark plug, a lead, a coil or an injector, but its unusual that its now running fine. Things like this don't fix themselves?

So I was wondering, my car has always had a low idle at around 550rpm when warmed up and sometimes (3-4 times a year) it idles quite roughly and I always thought it was just probably a dirty throttle body or the "fast idle valve" (so I am told) but its never been a problem so Ive never got it sorted.

So, could a dirty or faulty throttle body or fast idle valve be the cause of the misfire?

possible but could also be spark plugs dying or ht leads/coilpacks are on the last legs, best thingto do is cleans the TB or fast idle valve with carb cleaner and see how you go, when the last time you serviced it ?

It had a basic 50k service including oil and air filter two weeks ago and the plugs are 1 year old. I am guna try find a friend to clean the throttle body out for me

plugs are meant last up to 60k but i change my once a year just for peace of mind anyway they cheap and a diy job very simple

HT leads may also need changing - they're not expensive, and can cause an on-off problem. I had one held together with a cable tie (don't ask...emergency ghetto repairs!) for a little while that would work fine except for an odd occasion when it would play up before going back to normal.

somethink simler happened to my arosa, do you have bit's of metal around the out side of your HT leads were there conect to the plugs ? if there have take them off, it atracts the spark from the plugs
