tuning

the easiest way is a tuning box ,i can honestly say you will be surprised with the unit ,i sold tuning units for 6 years stemming from my own purchase of a tdi unit for my 2000 alhambra, you should gain good hp torque (25%)and gain 3-7mpg as well, also fit a performance air filter(pipercross or k&n or green cotton).i could point you in the right direction but it may break the rules

Dave - tuning 90 TDIs has been covered in alot of detail in the past in the TDI section, have a read back through.

Tuning boxes are generally looked down upon, your better off spending your money on an upsolute remap who are best for the non PDs and are a good price. Then after that your looking at bigger bucks for injectors, turbo, IC...

But like i say its all been covered before so have a look back through

Tuning unit

tuning units are looked down by people who know nothing about them ,firstly they are not all the same ,they are a very easy and relatively cheap mod that give good all round gains, there are good and bad remaps as well ,as he said it is a run around so why would he spend the money on a remap etc ,at least with a tuning unit you have unit to resell.to be honest i sold tuning units for 6 years after running one on my last alhambra tdi ,i would be sceptical to buy anything on ebay where i sold as there are a lot of chinese ones now

this has been covered sooo many times before. I will re-iterate a bit.. the tuning box your referring to, does it just plug into the elec connector for the fuel pump? (on the old non PDs this is, for other people reading), if so then all is going to do is to make it inject more fuel which is a rough method of tuning a TDI, yes it does get more power but not as smooth or as reliable or as safe for your engine as a proper remap which changes the fueling and boost at the same time to handle the increase better.
