Eeeks! Dont remind me!!!! Have you seen how many grommet holes are on a Beeza. I have them all to seal. This projects going to take forever. Must remember to buy more gas and wire for the mig!!!

leave one to drain it after the deluge from ford skipping :) and just looked at pics an dseen the seam weldings started ---- ----- ---- ---- oh what joy :)

keep it up as theres a polo autograsser here thats starting to peel apart in the rear and its only been out for 6 meetings so far

Good Rally Cars dont die - they move to Ireland to play on the Tarmac :)

Must admit some are better than others. The golf could beat a few, but some are just too good. Their specs are incredible!!!!!!!! Unfortunately I dont have the budget to even contemplate beating some of the top ones, but remember "To finish first, first you must finish". Wise old saying that and certainly the golf has surprised a few escort men at the end of the day, just hope I get it right in the beeza. Think I can get another couple of seconds a mile back with it...............!!!!

Drivers side front triangulation in.

Rear crossmember, main hoop, roof bars, front legs all done, door bars, dash bar, harness bars, front left triangulation left to do.

I will get it finished soon.

I see those straps! Did you manage to get away without dropping the cage throught the floor?. Its decieving how labour intensive fitting a cage like this is, I can see why CC charge what they do to fit them!

Keep at it Nigel!!

Yeah, I did manage it ok. I dropped it from the cage feet at the main hoop and dropped the front legs off their plates and was just able to get the top of the windscreen bar, roof brace and main hoop. What do cc charge out of interest? Any word on your diff from alan yet, or have you taken a different route to get one?

Great stuff! I cant remember now, but it was quite a bit! Hunted high and low for a diff in the country (even Ireland!) with no luck, so going to be patient and wait til alan gets one!

Whats the next step after the cage is done then?

Ah well when he does get it for you at least you have no postage to pay, judging by your location you are only down the road a bit from him. It will be worth the wait for the diff. The next step will be cutting the dash to fit, then trying to fit the bias pedal box with the steering column. When thats done I will be getting the seating positions sorted and brackets welded in and look at the fitting of the fuel tank. Once everything being fitted internally fits and welding finished I will spray the interior. i hope to have the chassis rolling by september and the engine built and running in for october/november.

Right then. First i must apologise. I forgot this thread was on here.

I will have to get some pics online to show the progress I have made, but in the meantime heres a description.

Boot floor modded and alloy Alloy baffled fuel tank fitted between rear turrets, roll cage 99% complete, front bulkhead modified and strengthened for ex mk2 golf bias pedal box, 80% of seam welding and chassis strengthening carried out. Almost ready to spray interior.

Rear axle strengthend and triangulated to grpA works spec, two brand new rear proflex shocks, megasquirt engine management, upright hydraulic handbrake, sparco rev seats, two heated front screens (one spare) all acquired.

Parts from the golf waiting to go in once ready:- Ex works 5spd avanti semi helical cut motorsport gearbox (020) with Kaaz lsd, 6 puck paddle race clutch, Hi spec front 4 pots with 285mm x 25mm discs, reconditioned golf grpA Bilstein front struts (though am saving for 2 new proflex units at the mo), grpA front rose jointed wishbones, harnesses, plumbed in extinguisher and hand held, sparco steering wheel, two bosch motorsport fuel pumps, oil cooler, hoping to mod the 4 branch to fit, grpA exhaust (though will have to adapt and fit motorsport cat due to age of car).

Things to do:-
Finish off welding
Spray inside
Plumb the brakes and fuel lines
Wire the car
Change all rear windows to perspex
Fit all the above
Then look at the engine.
Order vibra technics mounts and rear axle bushes.

engine plans are
2ltr 16v ABF
new rods
forged pistons
Jenvey dth throttle bodies
Piper cams
grpA head
other bits and pieces:whistle:
baffled sump
Aiming 210 to 230 bhp when all done.

It will be road legal as it is to be a proper competition car and is required to be taxed and motd for the events I compete on.

I promise I will get my finger out and get some pics online soon.

So as you can see, there has been some progress. Biggest problem I have is no time to do the work. It is slow but I will get there.

The plating on the outside increases the strength. It reduces axle twist. It's a direct copy of the VW polo kit car axle and similar to that of the mk3 golf kit car design as well. I was going to use spherical bearings as rear axle bushes but am thinking of getting Vibra tech ones instead. They seem to be a pretty good job.
