how do u know it definitely does???

did you take the gear box off and look for yourself?

LSD wasnt standard im sure

its the sole reason he bought the car.... and when we went five up in it off roading ( went paintballing ) he floored it through some rite muddy conditions and it powered through impressivly, im going to ask him when i see him at work cus now u got me doubting, and why the hell would you need to take the gearbox off haha

just lift the car up on a ramp and see if the wheels fail to turn independantly of one another :p

Hmmmm, you see I always thought that only THE fastest of FWD cars have LSD's. Even an LCR hasnt got one. But for example a forus RS does.

Interesting

dont they do that anyway? i.e jack one side up and u can spin the wheel? the car would have to be in drive with the engine running surely?! now if you had seen it being fitted id be quite contempt but as you havent im pretty sure your mistaken

im fairly certain they dont have an lsd as standard anyway (but you can get an aftermarket product). my mk3 1.8T certainly doesnt..and as said nor does the Leon cupra R

LSD never came as std in any of the MK2's, they only made use of an eds (may be edc necter remember these!) system in the later models which was a creud version of traction control which used the fron ABS sensors, There was a performance LSD available as an aftermarket golf replacement which was adaptable to the ibiza diff system.

On the wheel spinning i used to be able to get my 1.4 and my GTI to wheel spin up to third gear in the wet depending on the road surface, in the dry it would normally grip from first onwards.

The late 16v MK2's do have crude traction control that use the abs sensors to monitor wheel spinning. However it only seems to work upto 20mph-ish and even then its crap.

Its wet outside so i'll go do some wheel spin tests in the cordy and get back to you

you wouldn't wheelspin in any gear if your clutch was slipping! your not getting enough drive from the engine to the gearbox with your clutch slipping so it would make it harder to wheelspin rather than making it easier! so rule that out!
