I think they sent me mk3 ones. Despite me ordering mk2 ones, and waiting 4 weeks, and being charged £18 for delivery. Not happy one bit.

Love it kev, tha was a cool car, great seats! To keep the windows flush with the outside line if the car, i have fitted them as per the original pop out windows, left the rubbers in place, cut three holes ans used the original mounting hardware. There is a bit of flexibility in the rear end of the window but thats ok as it can vent the cabin and stop the rear window blowing out if i have the drivers window down a bit when its hot.

Ta, yep we can have a chat at some point no probs. Doing this again.....well it depends what you need from the car. To begin with, my car was driven to trackdays, driven to nurburgring etc, so had to be useable on the road. As time has gone on, its got more and more race-like, and i wouldnt now want it as a road car, very noisy, lots of vibration etc etc. For what i want now, i would start with a bare shell, acid dipped, weld in cage, and nothing goes back on without a serious reason why. I may still do this at some point. So it depends what your needs are?

Mental project here, continuing thinking in this thread to reduce capacity of 1.8T to 1400T for racing in <2000cc classes

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=178266&page=3

Mk2 ibiza was fitted with highly acclaimed 1400 16V AFH engine (also used in Polo). Sorg (dissolved German tuner) had a turbo version of this up to 374hp.

Here's one from Greece fitted to a Mk2 ibiza showing 250ps as a kit

Apparently the big issue with this kind of power is what a lot of G40 Polo drivers eventually run in to - the weakness of the 085 gearbox.

There is some talk on the internet about fitting 020/02a boxes to these 'small blocks' but no substantial details. There is an adapter plate mentioned:

1.4 G60 Polo of Peter Nauman has 280PS so clearly they have worked out some method of transmitting bigger power

Rumours are it may be with a highly costly 085 sequential conversion from Klaus Bernert

Ok - so some quite rare pics here of the fabled Sorg Motorsport modified 02a gearbox casing that enables an 02a to be bolted to a 1300/1400 small block engine. Its quite a lot of fabrication, and it needs to be spot on so they must have done all this with some kind of jig. Its predominantly 02a, but with the 085 starter housing grafted in, and some extra mounting points. To make this work you would use a G40 flywheel and then a custom 200mm clutch with a 02a centre spline and a modified cover to use the 02a release bearing. These have traditionally been used on high power G40 Polos where the engine needs tilting to maintain driveshaft angle, custom mounts, chassis leg cut and shut etc etc etc. Big bit of work. In an ibiza already fitted with an 02a, its a lot more simple as the box would stay put, and the new engine sited appropriately. Driveshafts would remain standard, but custom clutch would be required - £300 from Sachs or Helix.

But an even better idea has surfaced today.....[B)]...........:funk:.........

Details soon

Guy wants £900 for it, empty gearbox casing, no mounts. Probably right as Sorg rumoured to have charged 1000 Euro-ish new when they were making them. Seems dear but there is a lot of exact work needed to do this so its probably fair. In custom fabrication, 1000 notes doesn't buy much. Thing is, it would do the job, and would make the project possible, but a mate has an alternative method available any time using a 10mm steel adapter plate. It will be more robust, use more standard parts, and enable me to use my existing 02a clutch setup (which I know works) rather than having to move to custom G40 parts. More details very soon.

I'd have thought the known quantity is better Rob?
for the amount of use the car gets per year there must be a limit as to what is reasonable?

Interesting website - 'how many left' - tells you how many of a particular car are still running.

Mk2 Ibiza 1.8 16V GTI - as of Q42013, 4 licensed and 5 Sorn.

NINE left......only.

Staggering.

Who knows where they are?????
