I just wanted to know other peoples opinion and give mine. I currently have a 2006 Ibiza Cupra Tdi which I like a lot, but, I need a 5 door car and have got a little bored of the fact that it runs out of steam higher up the rev range. I have now driven the new Cupra and today I drove an LCR. There (in my opinion) is nothing in it! The new Leon is a little nicer inside but I actually think the LCR was a little more exciting to drive. Steering was taughter and it was more exciting on the acceleration. Also the LCR is 4k cheaper. I think I already have answered my own question but has anybody else got an opinion? I drove a Subaru WRX Sportswagon as well but (seriously) it was boring! I look forward to hearing everybodys thoughts especially LCR owners.
 
personally if i could afford a new cupra there would be no question about it. i love my lcr but the new cupra will hold its money a lot better than the R even though you'll save money on the purchase you'll lose money quicker on an older leon imho. new cupra, or buy the new cupra and i'll swap you for my cupra R :cheeky:
 
I can only just about afford the MK2 Cupra and I think I would be more than happy with the LCR after driving it today and I will be left with a few quid for mods.
 
I had the choice of the two.....money wasn't the issue.....went for the LCR.

IMO it looks better...you know it's the R immediately -

prefer it to the 'Altea' looks of the MK2.

That's not to dis MK2 owners though - test driven one & thought it was very capable !....the engines a peach & can be taken to 300BHP+ on a straight remap with no further mods ! :drool:

Seat really have to do more to make it stand out though....It's not a kick in the ass off the look of the FR....I was also disapointed with the interior (seats apart).

If it's not down to the money.....It's all a matter of taste ! :)
 
Thing is, in all seriousness, the outgoing LCR has held its money impressively well. 4yr old cars are still comfortably holding over 50% of the original price.
 
id never be parted from my LCR, yes the cupra is nice but you see an FR and it looks the same the LCR is a car that people can tell from the rest of the range and i still say the new age of seats feel very cheep and cheerful now
 
The new cupra kinda looks like a generic hatchback to me - like an amalgomation (sp?) of the Focus and Altea. Neither of which I find particularly exciting to look at.

No offence to those who own them of course, they're still lovely cars - but they just don't have the edge of the LCR.
 
I could have got a larger loan to stretch to the new cupra but I was not even tempted. As already said seat have not distinguished the car from others and now it has been out a while I still do not like the look of it. I went for the LCR, but had I have not gone for that the new cupra was not even in the running.

When you see other LCR's pass you you think wow what a beast that looks along the road - not so for the new cupra. LCR all the way - as you say they are cheaper but obviously this is partly down to them being rarer than the other fast hatches.
 
I must admit the MK2 look is growing on me after seeing a Cupra in the flesh, close up a few months ago.

Although, I agree with ArosaRacer, the MK1 LCR is just such a good look, I would be hard pushed to chose a MK2 over a late MK1 LCR.

I can't justify changing to either at the mo though so its all accademic really!!!!!!!

Have just started to warm to the new Cupra but think the centre console looks a bit cheap 'n' nasty compared to the mk1. I drive a mk1 FR TD1 but correct me if I'm wrong that the FR+ looked exactly like the LCR :headhurt:
Anyway still think mk1 looks better than mk2 ;)
 
I am taking the wife to see the LCR today. As I said I drove a Subaru WRX on an 06 plate not only was it a little tame (4wd?) but the wife absolutely hates the image of them even though it is the 5 door sportswagon. I think I can see the general feeling here. If she likes it I think I will buy it. 2yrs old, 25k miles, £14k, metallic grey, recaros! **** money for mine though!
 
Would have to say as someone that is looking for a new car id go for the Mrk 1 LCR over the Mrk 2 anyday. Not driven either of them yet and money isn't an issue, just think the Mrk 1 looks far superior!
 
trouble is, if this chap posted the exact same question in the mk2 forum im sure he would have the absolute opposite response. we all (well most of us) own our cars because we like them so we are obviously going to recommend them to other people.

it seems to me that the best people to judge are those that have owned both as they can make a direct ownership comparison, that means asking the mk2 guys!!
 
I may do that. I also found some lower mileage on the Seat website so I dont think I will make a decision today. This one I have found has got Recaros and that really appealed to me.
 
Oh and also I asked the salesman about the coil pack issue and he said it only affects the early LCR 210bhp version. Is he talking out of his a**e?
