Will a set of mk2 alloys fit on the mk1? I wouldnt have thought there would be any difference, mk5 golf alloys fir the nk4 so.....any ideas?

Pretty sure the mk1 is 5x100 and the mk2 is 5x112 - sure someone will confirm soon enough.

Yep that's correct. Think the only way you will get them to fit is to fit an adapter

Above is correct, they won;t bolt straight on.

IMO all hubs should be legally enforced to be 5x100, life would be much easier

almost made this mistake too glad i searched - so to get it straight we need 5 x 100 pcd offset = ?

Mk 1 Leon needs 5x100 and in the case of LCR, et35 to clear the brembo's.

It's not just that it's the design of the wheels/spokes to clear the brembos too.
