This morning I hadthe coil light flashing when driving home...it comes on flashing all the time after around 30seconds of starting the car.

I did a quick fault search on VAGcom and it recorded the following... I hope that someone can indicate which fault is causing the coil light to flash, and if the others are anything to worry about.

Thanks in advance

JK

The coil/glow plug light flashing normally denotes a problem with your brake switch/lights. It might be an idea to check that they're still working first.

Mrcoyote, thanks will look asap, in the beeza hand book it says that the flashing coil is a problem with the diesel fuel system?! More dealer bull?? thanks for quick reply

Nah, it can also mean that, but going by the fault code in vagcom about the brake switch I'd be inclined to check your brake lights first. Speaking from experience here as mine died. :(

Do a little search as this has been covered a few times in the past.

Got to agree with mrcoyote. When mine did that it was a faulty brake light switch – a very common fault. 3 new switches on my Leon and one on the Ibiza!

I had exactly the same problem and so has Mike_OBD - its not necessarily the brake switch, it could just be a resistance anomaly in the circuit.

Mine did it when the two filaments in the stop/tail bulb connected :S Thank god i noticed it when i saw my front sidelights flashing on whenever i braked :p

People also have it when both side brake light fail, or when they replace them with LED's.

In the worst case, Brake switches are only £7 + 20mins and they've allegedly brought out an updated version to fix the issue (yeah right!)

righto...

ordered a brake light switch now, should be in 2m. None of the lights are working, so im guessing the switch. Soon find out i guess.

When i went to order it, the guy did say that the part had been updated, coz it gave a diff part number or something. Will see

thanks again for help peeps

I may be wrong but, I think you have to plug the switch in to make it function, just connecting it for a test will not make it work, can someone confirm? never done one myself

Having problems with my Ibiza TDI 130 that i purchased last week from a dealer about 50 miles away. After 4 or 5 days it conked out going round a roundabout, on the way out of the roundabout i applied the accelerator and there was nothing. It was in 3rd gear and i was doing around 20-30mph (big open roundabout). I had to stop and put the hazzard lights on and try and start it again.

It started again after 3 or 4 attempts and ran perfectly again until saturday, when it gave up on me on the shore road. I was in a line of traffic and someone was turning right into an industrial estate in near my house. I slowed to a stop with the clutch pedal right in, and took it out of gear, whacked the hand brake on, and then when i went to move off i realised it had conked out again.

I never felt anthing either of the two times like you would if you stalled a car or anything. It wouldnt start again so I had to get it towed, and when being towed it started again when put into gear. I took the car up to a friends house who has a VAG COM later on and on the way there it gave up when i came to a stop again because i got a telephone call. Luckily i was on a hill, so i rolled down building up speed and put it into gear and got it started again. On the way into my friends street it died on me going round the corner in 2nd gear, so i had to push it the last 200 meters or so! It wouldnt start at all standing still...

Luckily my friend knows a bit more about cars than me, and he put it into 1st gear, made it tick over... it chugged... then started. Really weird problem, because the only relevant error showing up on the VAG COM is:

Any ideas or help much appreciated! I hope someone knows of a common fault with a silly sensor or something?

Thanks for the advice posted, fitted two brake lights fault reset. Garage quoted me £173 to fix the problem. Cost me £2.59 for two brake lights job done:)
