I've just had a call from SEAT to say my 1.2 has failed its MOT on emissions. They're saying it's the cat and that there's a 'hole in the honeycomb'. Is this likely to have happened? I can't imagine they'd be having me on? It's the 4th year service and my ibiza's only done 16000 miles. If I get it replaced i'll ask to see the old one anyway.

They're quoting 300 odd quid to get it replaced and fitted, is there a drastically cheaper option available?

What a pain.

Thanks, Rick

Happened to my old dears volvo. Take it to a different garage and slip them a backhander.

Hmmm I might do, what's the deal with moving an MOT failed car? I'm fairly new to this MOT banter.

Cheers. Does anyone know how much I should be expecting to pay for a cat fitted before I ring around tomorrow? I'll probably get it sent to another MOT centre and if it fails again just get them to fix it...

not to my knowledge mate no, but I couldn't be sure.

Got it back, and got it booked in somewhere else to have it checked. It hasn't had a good booting for a while so gave it one today and will on wednesday when it's due in for another MOT, might help a bit so i've been told.

Anyway I got the refusal sheet back and it says it failed on the 2nd fast idle for carbon monoxide levels. I would've thought if the cat is broken it would've failed at the natural idle too? I don't have any figures to quote as there aren't any on the one sheet I got.

Flew through the 2nd MOT, saved myself £350 for a new cat. Ya beauty.
