Well my figures show i'm getting 45.2 average calculated. Its all down to driving style i guess. I'm using lots of cruise control. Computer reads 4 mpg out compared to calculated on paper. I might adjust it with VAG-com if i can figure it out!

1.9 TDI with 21000 miles.

Interesting topic this, me manual 2.0TDi with 30k on the clock again round town gives 43-44mpg average during the day, a long run back from Cornwall the other day saw exactly the same, but that was 4 up with surf boards cruising 80ish.
When i'm driving to customers for work and been in no rush i've managed to average 58 from Hampton to Stansted round the M25 doing 65-70.
I had a new DSG Toledo as a loan vehilcle once and that did chew the diesel !!

Yes I do get away with filling up once a month when not going trips.

I'd make the point with a non aircon car you would gain MPG during the summer, I use to on my other cars, but with aircon you don't see the summer / winter cycles in consumption.

filling up once a month!!! I wish, one week and that is being nice on the diesel consumption!!!! try not use the aircon, window down a fraction usually sorts things out!! Must be something wrong with the car as mpg is awfull!! always around 39mpg!

No 2 litre DSG always gives you 39, well it does for Loadswine as well and a number of other people. It's going to be worse than a manual, I seem to recall it's about 3 MPG worse which isn't bad given the effortless way of driving it. 1.9 TDI do give you better consumption but less poke. Living in London I don't go on big commutes if I'm working in town, catch the train instead. That's where the DSG comes in on all the stops starts on the M25 and M1. Save the left arm.

I have a 30mile commute every morning and evening along B roads, try keep as steady at 60 as possible (as little acceleration, gear change and deceleration as possible) and still get the same mpg. Have one issue with a slight cough or hiccup at steady speed when i then move accelerator the smallest amount i get a drop out of power for split second!!

Can't say I get that.... the only thing is in cold weather the DSG is lumpy in gear changes for the first half mile or so till the gear box / engine whatever is warmed up, other than that you won't know it's there. I do commute to the tube station when I'm heading in one direction and for town driving an auto is a breeze. With the Altea I don't get notes left on the windscreen by people in posh houses that don't like me parking outside when I walk to the station. Either they can't get the note on the windscreen wiper or they just love an Altea parked outside :).

Thats better than what happened my last car, all 4 tyres slashed 50mile from my house in the evening in a dodgy area....not good!! No problems with the toledo either. The wiper thing is a dterant to those hatefull flyers that end up under it now and again!!! i dont get any :p

Was in vestigated by Seat, but thay never came up with anything! Reading about here sounds similer to the EGR trouble another person had, like a cough at certain engine loads - too much EGR gas being added to the combustion and smothering the engine for a second?

I was feeling smug when I walked into the carpark after work and all my colleagues had flyers under their windscreen wipres, knowing that they won't have managed to get one under mine. Got in, started the engine, looked in the rear-view and there it was under the rear wiper, doh!

Tell, either you don't look behind you or they like the Altea

I reckon they are happy to have an Altea parked in front of their house rather than a Citroen as before. I don't hear the cursing sound which I'd get before which was why don't people park in the station car park. For one reason you don't get any exercise, second reason it costs money.

So the saga continues then

Less MPG with Cruise. Thats interesting Ralley Dale. What do you base this conclusion on then? I did a long run with cruise and saw 64mpg on the computer after 50 miles of "grannie" driving. If you judge the traffic and use the brakes as little as possible, you'll see what can be achieved.

If you set the cruise at 70mph you'll actually be doing around 67. so that means no speeding tickets and lots of mile to the penny;). Sorry that's a bit boring i guess if you have a 2.0l DSG that's been chipped:D

Perhaps we could all have lessons on how to use the right foot correctly from the person that gets the best MPG on here:D

I only use cruise control so I don't break the speed limit and on long stretches of motorway works my right foot gets tired and aching hanging their to hit the breaks when using cruise control [DSG, I don't do the left foot - right foot thingey, that one is asking for trouble]. So I find cruise control uncomfortable for long periods since you can't really rest your right foot too far away from the break pedal if you don't want to hit the next person in front in crowed southern roads.

Afraid that video is no good if you got DSG all that gear changing :p.

Tell,

I use cruise lots, generally both of my feet are on their respective rests, i'm puzzled why you hang your right foot over the brake pedal ?, i hover with one of my left fingers over the 'cruise on/off' lever, simplest way to (temporarily) turn off cruise is just to nudge slightly against the off side, not a full off, just a nudge against it, soon as you want cruise again just press reset and you're off again (and when that lovely torque kicks in, you're back up to speed in no time!), i think cruise is bliss :D.

Sorry if i'm trying to teach granny to suck eggs !!!!

I'm a believer in cruise control in 30 / 40 / 50 speed trap areas but find it tedious and dangerous in busy traffic which is the M1 14 mile works around Hemel Hempstead which is going on for 3 years. Teddious with the ache of getting ready to break. I think it's too far from the rest position on the right to pass the the gas peddle to brake in a quick break and one may hit the wrong pedal. After resting it for so long I find my foot gets dead.... could be old age creaping up. Saying all that I use it and wouldn't be without in those speed trap areas but for normal driving I much prefer to stay in control myself.

BTW with a DSG I reckon cruise control would save fuel removing the temptation to vary speed and braking. When there is no load on the engine the DSG box goes out of gear so I've read.

fair do's, my 64 mile daily commute is to York and back and at the time i travel is pretty quiet, i suppose there's a time and place, all the best.
