Hey folks, I'm new to this forum and this is my first post
I currently have a Honda Civic Type-R (stop boooing lol) and am hopefully getting rid of it for an LCR 225. Well I went for a test drive at the weekend and here is my verdict
My test drive was of a Leon Cupra R 225bhp model, 54 plate with about 6,000 miles.
I went in with an open mind not knowing really what to expect but I can safely say that I was very impressed!
Lookswise I think this car is nicely balanced; not in your face (unless it's a yellow one ) but distinguished enough to make it stand out a bit. The 18's, oval tail pipe and Brembo's really work nicely I think. Even with 4 doors the car still looks sporty and, although I prefer to have 3 doors, this factor would ceratinly not stop me from getting the LCR.
Okay...inside I thought is nice, everything is pretty much black with the odd bit of red detailing; the streering wheel has a nice feel and there is a red line of stitching in the dead top centre which is another subtle but nice sporty touch. The particular model that I took out had the standard LCR front seats, as opposed to the Recaros which are an optional factory extra. They still offered good support however (not quite as much as the CTR) and the material is nice and hard wearing. My only gripe would be that the dash looks dated compared to newer cars and there was the odd rattle here and there but nothing too major to detract from the driving experience.
Ok enough of the inside and onto the actual test drive itself. My Dad and the salesman were in the car so 3 people in all. It should be noted that I've not driven a petrol engine turbo before, only turbo diesels. We drove through the town where the dealership is based and the first thing I noticed was that the throttle felt very nice indeed and the gearbox, although not as slick as the CTR, still felt really nice and sure footed - gears felt softer to engage which I actually prefer. Exiting the town, we got out onto a slip road which joins a piece of motorway so a great opportunity to see what it could do....wow I took it to just before the redline in 3rd and it really did put a smile on my face...3rd gear is very long and the power delivery is very smooth and progresses nicely throughout the range...makes you wonder what a Revo'd one must feel like Obviosuly it's a lot easier to drive quick than the CTR and whilst it doesn't keep you on your toes as much, that's not always a bad thing IMO; the LCR still offers a big grin factor and I felt rewarded! Sadly there wasn't many chances to throw the cars into bends at great pace but overall it felt nicely placed on the road; to be honest I prefer straightline speed on big open roads and long gentle sweeping bends rather than the twisties but that's just me, we all have different things that we want from cars.
So I shall have a try of the Megane 225 in the week and see how it compares...all I'll say is that it has quite an act to follow
