Had my leon cupra Tdi for just over a week, It was in need of some Tlc, so i have been V Busy ..

Thought i would treat it to new filters & oil Etc all round...

Came to remove the sump plug & all it did was turn, Only finger tight also & suffering with a slight oil weep !!!

Fcuk I thought ... managed after a short while to get it out, By using mole grips on the flats, Pulling a twisting ...

Somebody had stripped the threads on both the sump plug & in the sump, Wrapped lots of Ptfe around the plug & popped it back in finger tight...[:@] Feckers...

So !? what to do now... ?? Went to my local motor factors & got a selection of sump plugs, Tried most & no joy .. Tried finding a taper seat self tapping bolt, !! May as well of been asking for Rocking Horse Sh!t !!!
From a rough measurement the Seat plug was approx 14mm, In my selection i had an approx 16mm Peugot sump plug, Just too big to fit, So armed with the peugot plug, went in search of a Tap & drill !! Borrowed one from a friends Hydraulic shop & then preceded to drill & tap out in situ.... Low & behold, It appears to have done the Job :funk:

Swarf i hear you say !!?? Well the required drill size was wound in virtually by hand .. & the peugot plug was quite short in length, So i did not need to go full depth as such.. Plus i washed the sump out again & again with old engine oil ...

Managed to get myself out of some one elses fcuk up there & a Mini Crisis there for me ...;)

another solution to this would be to seal around the plug with chemical metal or araldite and use a pela pump in future. There's no need to drain from the sump as the vacuum pump gets every bit out. Some people say they don't get every bit out but I've checked and they do. Also if you drain from the plug, you don't remove the half a litre of oil in the base of the filter housing. with a vacuum pump you can suck it out.

I dont think a new sump is that expensive from the dealers - £30 from what people have said.

Im always nervous of stripping threads on an alu sump, or not doing the bolt up tight enough so it comes loose and dumps all the oil!
