Got one out a 1.6 8v golf mk4 took it to my local Volkswagen specialist MBA who
Copied it over to the golf ecu for 60 pounds

Thanks Mitchel, so the eeprom data (and program in flash?) was copied from the old ECu to the new one(?) Do you know is that was done with "standard" VW dealer tools or with something else?
