Fairly thick piece of wire, preferably with spade connectors on each end that will fit the plug. The fans are trying to draw 30 amps, after all.

Those fan motors are powerful, so make sure nothing loose can get caught in them - chains, medallions, tie, long hair etc. And don't touch them when they are spinning, they'll cut straight through you.

Here, if it helps at all, is the latest version of a set of diagrams I drew to explain the various OEM, aftermarket and DIY setups for radiator fan control.

There are no ground connections shown to reduce the number of wires in the picture. Assume the motors, fan control module and Nime box all have earth connections.

The plug you will be bridging the contacts on is for the thermoswitch, on the left of the diagrams.

Well today I tested the thermoswitch with no joy, speed 1 is fooked speed 2 is working fine so I take it new fans it is!!

Stealers quoted me £320inc vat for both fans, gonna fit them my self should be fairly straight forward?

Noticed today tho that when I put the ac on the fast speed kicked in at 90 and more offten??

Thanks guys Rab

My slow speed work with the ac on. With the ac off my temp will rise to 105 on my lg and then fast speed fans come on. I don't think the slow speed come on in mine without the ac on. The slow speed fans should come on to keep the temp down before the big ones do yes? I have bought the control module but can't get to change it as the bolt holding it on under the battery tray has rusted and rounded. Does my problem sound like the fan control module or thermoswitch? Once again like ppl above I have read numerous threads and ended up confusing myself. I had the fans replaced within the last 2 years.

I would say to save time mate would be to do what I done! Test the thermoswitch, am pretty sure that the slow speed should come on without the ac when it hits 90 or so then fast at 102. Not gonna lie mate but it's 90% gonna be fans!

Rab

Mine shouldnt be if I can get the slow speed to work with the ac on. I think (hope) mine is the thermoswitch or the control module-even though i can't get the old one off.

I think I am going to win my battle with the co frol module bolt and use the paperweight I bought to replace it. I think you can replace the thermoswitch without buying new fans. Have you got any pics of the thermoswitch location. How have you tested this with the engine off?
Dude are you sure that you need new fans as if the resistors in the fans themselves were bust one or both of the fans would not work atall.

Up to u mate on take secs to unplug and test.

As u look at your car from the front is right of the rad in the middle of the 2 water pipe that come from the rad it's triangle, unplug that then u have the thermoswitch which u have to unscrew.

I've got excatly the same problem. I've been outside today tackling it. I went down the resistor route and have wired them in - fans are now working again! Just need to mount them onto a couple of brackets tomorrow. All fixed for about £30 rather than about £400 that the dealer wanted.

I'm just finishing it now. I'll stick up a pic when it's all done :) it's not a hard job, just time consuming and fiddly really :)

I've written a guide on how to do it but can't post links to pics until I've got 15 posts or more lol. Keep an eye out, I'll get it up when I've got more posts :)
