Hi All

I’m sure I found a thread on this before but I done a quick search but could not find it?

I’m pretty sure that I need to replace the oil temp sensor as it seems to have a mind of its own, so I turn the engine on, run it for about 10-15min and the sensor will show 90, and then all of a sudden it will drop to cold then back to 90 and so on.

Most of the time once it has done that it will stay on cold, even though I have been driving for like an hour?

I have heard that it is most likely the sensor needing replacing... so can any one be kind enough to post the part code of the sensor as my local Swindon Seat is crap when it comes to ordering parts as they just bring up a picture of all the parts of the car and flick through till you see the part you need

Also I'm sure I have seen it some where a little guide showing you how to DIY to replacing the sensor?

Cheers People!

Oh yeah the car is a 2003 LC 1.8T

- (new model, green) coolant temperature sensor (part 059-919-501-A)
- O-ring seal for above (part N-903-168-02)

- Optional (may break when replacing) : plastic retaining clip (part 032-121-142)

Sorry to hijack the thread but it's on topic - I replaced my sensor with another green one after getting the same problem. But the gauge is still temperamental (drops every now and again, although not usually more than half way).

I'm also getting the EML light on intermittently with the common fault codes:
P0172 (system too rich)
P1137 and
P1297

Could the temp gauge problem be causing those?

And if replacing the sensor hasn't worked - what else could it be

Thanks in advance for any help

My guess would be your thermostate is faulty (doesn't fully close)
Quite sure actually ...
Had the same problem once
