I agree dj, goes back to my post the other day about confusing the customers. It cheapens the brand in my opinion. Yes the Mk2 might not to be everyone's tastes. But its still selling well by all accounts.

So SEAT just leave it alone, move on with the new design direction which is fanny tastic, and move onto the Mk3 in 2010 or so. Stop arsing about with something that is essentially the same but with a bit more bling attached.

Mk3 Leon Cupra

I think SEAT may show this off more tomorrow, as there are 2 press days at Geneva. So they are probably saving this up as a minor announcement for tomorrow.

But the PR mentions no engine revisions to the range, so its got no extra power over an existing Cupra it would appear. So its just a bit of fluff, the parts managers will get in stock for you. :D

New bodykit available across the range going by that sentence is what I gather.

Unless of course they mean range as in diesel power and petrol powered mills.

What do you want to bet that it is no doubt another variation of the Aero kit?!

oooohhh more bling - hope it's better than the aero kitted version - if they put the supercopa wheels on it I'm placing an order for some - who cares about being in more debt!

We'll get a new R badge to stick on too :)

I am too late if there is a new kit and its any better than the Aero kit as my car is currently in the shop having the Aero skirts and spoiler fitted along with the black grille.

We will see what the resulting effort is this next time. Not going to lose any sleep over it, but I am sure it would annoy myself and other Cupra owners, especially those who have just ordered a K1, that a nicely tarted R line version of the Cupra with the same oily bits as the Cupra and K1, is released a little over 1 year after the Cupra itself and a few weeks after the K1, especially when the Cupra is all but identical to the lower spec FR and the K1 is basically the same as a Reference Sport with the Aero kit.

This kind of thing puts me off buying another SEAT to be honest.

Ok the press pack has details in English. This was out at least yesterday we must have missed it.

From the sounds of it it is being branded as a "Line R" customisation option so people can choose from a set of modifications. As Z says, probably retrofittable, although some may be expensive - e.g. the new steering wheel. There is also a round gearknob - I know some people don't get on with the std cupra one. Personally I think it's great. Presumably this stuff wil be "line R" branded. So much for the "R" badge being gone for good ;)

English release:

"Línea R: the sportiest range enhanced

Spectacular, exciting, quality, compelling, forceful, sporty…are only a few of the adjectives used to describe the latest and most exclusive addition to the León range – the Línea R. A new market launch and tremendous challenge that raises the flag of SEAT’s sport identity to the top of the mast.

The SEAT León Línea R is a unique, spectacular vehicle whose captivating design and imposing range of engines are the car’s identity traits.

The exterior looks of the Línea R are immediately visible, such as the spectacular new bumpers, the front end design, whose oversized air intake and honeycomb design is different from the rest of the range, the twin polished steel tailpipe and slatted side wings. An innovative spoiler at the top of the rear hatch strengthens its sporty looks and at the same time enhances its already excellent aerodynamic performance.

The side view reveals exclusive five double-spoke, 18 inch “Supercopa” wheels with their visible enormous disc brakes, and chrome encased door mirrors.

Every detail on the inside has been carefully chosen to reflect the car’s sporty identity, featuring impressive bucket seats (standard on some versions), a new leather steering wheel, a round leather gearknob with its gaiter stitched in zigzag SEAT red and joined to the central console with a chrome surround."

I agree. I would be tempted elsewhere next time if they released an R after not long buying the Cupra and being told there was no R line. I paid the extra to get the top of the line cupra with the extra power rather than get the FR and regret it.

Cosmetic or not they should just do a special edition like the K1. Are we sure this isnt just the K1?

I think SEAT are trying to deal with the complaints from press and customers that the stock Cupra doesn't look different enough from the FR. Personally I'm glad they are offering this customization option. Us SEAT owners are renowned for aftermarket mods and sticking bits on our cars. It's nice to have some new stuff to choose from. If people want to keep the Cupra looking stock they can order it that way and don't have the K1 kit forced upon them. They are giving us a choice which is quite nice if you ask me. :) If they didn't many people will end up sticking horrid JE design type stuff on their cars.

This changes the slant somewhat. From the translation you deleted, it came across as something different.

I am now a little concerned my car is having the Aero skirts and spoiler fitted at the moment :(

Of course, if these parts are available to be retrofitted, surely they will be available to all Leon owners, again not making it exclusive to the Cupra.

But that's always going to be the case. You could get a MK1 1.4 Leon and stick Leon Cupra R stuff on it, replace the steering wheel, bumpers, badges, suspension etc. etc.

Seat aren't going to stop people buying parts if it's not for the car it's intended for.

Look at Driveforward, he's got a Leon R splitter on his Arosa ;) :D

And of course, the "R line" won't have come as std. kit on a car at all. Unlike the aero kit which has been on the lower spec models (which personally I think was a bad move and added to the confusion). So the "R line" options will in fact be a bit more "exclusive".

Let's see what comes out from the show - it might not be drastically different to the aero kit - and you might not even like it. :)

I've scoured the web for any pics of it - maybe in the background, but no joy and I need to go to bed.

You can read the actual press release in Spanish here:
http://media.seat.com/view_manager.html?root=26,2346,2347,2349#3
and in English here:

It would seem that the Linea R is similar to the S Line concept in Audi, or the M line in BMW, where you can personalize your car by ordering specific "sporty" accessories. Kind of what is described here:

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showpost.php?p=1401742&postcount=9

There doesn't seem to be any changes in the Cupra -- thank God (and SEAT).

Regards, and thanks for reading.

I hear where you are coming from and agree to a point, but if SEAT are reacting to criticism from owners/dealers/press about the Cupra and FR looking too much alike and the K1 looking too much like a Ref Sport with an Aero kit, they are not going to redeem themselves by making an "R line" kit available available.

The flaw was either that the Cupra did not have this R-Line kit out the box or they gave the FR the Cupra bumpers.

Like you I have not been able to find pics either, but I gave in before you too mate :)
