New MAF; ECU reset needed?

Due to a failing MAF, I bought a new one and now have a new problem.

Previously was getting flat spots aover 2000rpm, hence the change.

Bought the replacement part (06A 906 461 X, Bosch Part 0 280 217 121), and first thing that struck me is it's slightly different. The side of the housing has two pins across which there's a diode (the old MAF didn't have this).

Fitted it anyway, and now have a problem around 1500rpm in all gears, where I get juddering - the car doesn't stall, but once past this, usually by easing off on the accelarator, acceleration is smooth and continuous.

MPG with the new MAF has dropped considerably (now around 40-43mpg, previously 54+!)

My questions are:

1. Do I assume the new MAF is either a dud or an incorrect part? (only markings on it are 06.01 07, on the opposite side to the diode)
2. Will an ECU reset sort this (i.e. disconnect the battery for 30 mins, and does this affect remote central locking if I do this (it did on my last car!) and how do I reset it if so?)

Over to you in the hope you can help....

an ECU reset isnt needed when changing this part, its a part which can be changed and the effects felt immediatly. unfortunatly youve had the bad effects. That maf with a diode doesnt sound right to me, so i would say youve got the wrong part im afraid.
