New owner with a few questions please

Evening all,

Bought an 2011 Exeo 2.0tdi around 4 weeks ago, the car has 66k on it, Seat sport 25mm lowered suspension with Audi 18" alloys.

I am loving the car and drive around 70 mile each day for work on a combination of motorway and 40-50 a roads. I am however having a few issues that I could do with some help with please.

First is the vibration that is coming through to the cabin during acceleration as well as the noise from the engine. To try and explain when vibration is there all the way through the rev range, the engine does rock the car a fair bit when the throttle is stabbed in idle. The gear stick moves more than I thought it would as well. The noise sounds similar to having a small induction kick on the car, the faster you go the more noise. I do sometimes get a shudder when taking off from a standing start but not all the time, I also get a bump sometimes when changing gear, more so when in low gears changing at high revs.

The second is an oil leak

The large pipe that going into the silver object to the right of the dipstick is leaking oil from the underside.

First could someone please tell me what the large silver object is and whether the leak is likely to be something I can fix at home or a garage job.

Last question is does the Exeo ahve a Haynes manual or does it use an Audi one??

not sure what the vibration is, but if there is excessive engine movement, sounds like it would be worth getting engine&gearbox mounts checked.
re the oil leak, i think mine has a similar leak (i'd say weep more than a leak) but it's not something i'm worried about as it doesnt seem to have gotten any worse since i've owned it.
as for what it is, i think i'ts the EGR valve EGR Valve

dont think Haynes do a manual for the Exeo, but the above link might help for exploded diagrams

JR130, cheers for the reply. I will keep an eye on the leak and see if it gets any worse, I presume it is the bottom ring that is leaking so might be an easy fix.

What do you guys do for maintenance manuals for the Exeo? Is there an online version that is similar to the haynes manuals for other cars?

Out of curiosity has it had the fix done?

No mate, I ran the vin number online and it is showing as needed but I am hesitant to do it after reading all the problems.

Does it have to be done or is it optional?

Definitely optional, I just wondered if that was contributing to the problem. Ive not had it done and my Exeo is going nowhere near a main dealer while I own it. :)

Don't worry too much about being able to feel the car roll a little when you depress the throttle pedal - it's due to the longitudinal layout of the engine. As for the other vibrations under acceleration this is quite common and is thought to be caused by a number of things all contributing to the overall effect. First suspect is condensation on the clutch plates - a side effect of its design and a common complaint with the B7, the second is the fueling / throttle response at low revs - the engine is near to stalling and ignition becomes a bit uneven which is then exaggerated by the longitudinal engine layout again, the revised fueling / throttle map of the "emissions fix" seems to cure this but there are also lots of VW / Audi / SEAT and Skoda drivers who have reported new problems after having this "fix" applied so you'd be advised to read up on those before you jump in (or alternatively you can try to compensate with your accelerator and keep the revs a little higher, eg around 1700rpm, and not allowing them to dip too much as you pull off).

Just found some other threads about similar issues on other VW forums - it appears that quite a lot of owners have noted a lag on the drive-by-wire accelerator and reported the feeling of nearly stalling on pulling away as a consequece. They mention a "pedal box" as a way of fixing this - apparently this is a plug-in device which sits between your accelerator sensor and the ECU, and recodes the data that the ECU receives in order to make the response curve sharper and less soft. I can see how this could work but I've not tried it myself and I'm also not sure what your insurance company would make of it.
