Hi all,
Recently bought a 150bhp V5 toledo, i'm loving it so far but i have a couple of problems.
When the engines Idle it rattles a little (sounds a bit diesel like, its fine when driving). Also the left indicator goes a little bit too fast (Quite annoying) the right is fine.
Hope someone can help :)

Hi mate,

Welcome to SCN! :)

I'm not sure about the engine as I'm not up to scratch on V5 Petrols - I'd probably say it sounds normal as I drive a diesel and has a TDI Toledo myself. The only thing I could immediatly think of is if the idle speed is lower than it should be, it may make a tinking sound similar to a diesel?

The indicator though should be simple... check the three indicator bulbs on the left hand side and check they are all working. Tend to see this problem when a bulb is out... or on its way out - I beleive a bad contact (Moisture?) can cause it also.

Hope this helps, I'm sure someone else will post back with maybe some more help with regards to the engine. :)

Cheers CHR15B!
That helps allot, I'll check out the bulbs tomorrow. Hope the engine is o.k, i got quite a good deal on the car so the paranoia is setting in ;)

I wouldn't worry about it too much, these engines are bulletproof so long as they are maintained OK. :)

Hmm a little bit of research it seems it could be the timing chains.... :(

yup normally down to valvetrain problems, indicator problem is normally down to the bulb holder itself, replace it then it will be all ok

Thanks Goble,
That website was a sobering read....................
The indicator problem sounds like an easy fix, the chain problem sounds like an expensive one :(
Any ideas what i'm looking at or how long its gonna hold out?
Cheers

then its really hard to say could last another 15,000,1500 or 15 miles depends on how worn the parts are. but to do the job is a big one££££

Ah nuts.............
What a nightmare only really just bought it recently and its developed... if i let it run its not just gonna seize up on me or anything catastrophic?
Thanks gobe much appreciated :)

hmm yes probably(more than likely)bend most or all of the valves, write off the head, damage or destroy pistons etc etc etc.

oh man...I should probably get it checked out....what a royal pain in the arse well thanks for the heads up goble...i would of just carried on driving it.

I had the car checked out by my local mechanic and he says its not the cam chain but something to do with the pistons? Does that sound right?
I've listened to a video someone posted with the Timing Chain prob and it sounds quite similar.
