Had a race (private land of course) with a work mates new 2.0T Octy VRS vs my 1.8T remapped, not much in it. Up to about 80 nowt in it then I pulled away a little, would probably lose him on topend but tbh was a little disappointed with the beezer with it being lighter etc. and having more power (APR 215 bhp 98 ron remap).

Should I put this down to it being a hot day or what?

Just a dual carigeway drag between roundabouts, the VRS seems to have a huge FMIC so was probably less affected by the 30 degree heat......

i'd give you a run for your money round the twisties;) the mk1 handles surprisingly well for a big car,the mk2 two with its new chassis should be even better

ahhhhhhhhhh lead him into a twisty road or roundabouts them you can say bye bye

I doubt it....

Dont forget the new octy is the same chassis as the Golf GTI.. which is aproximmately 1million times better than the ibiza chassis could ever be, anyone in a ibiza/fabia who thinks they could out handle a golf/octavia/audi/leon is havin a laugh..

Also you would loose top end too, octy has aerodynamics on its side... hence the 150mph top speed on a std one ;)

Well said Colin.

I own both cars, a Octavia 2 vrs, and an o5 Fabia Vrs

My Fabia will keep up with a standard Octavia Vrs, but it's mapped to 190bhp, and has extensive handling mods. The chassis in the Octavia is far superior to any previous generation VAG platform, and will out handle the Fabia by a long long long way.

As the Fabia and the Ibiza share the same platform, I will be so bold as to say, a well driven Octy MkII will show you a clean pair of heels in most circumstances.

i like these little debates :D

Me too. It's all a question of what you call good handling I guess. Some poeple like stable safe handling, some like twitchy, on the edge kind of handling.

I still say that the same driver on the same road would make much better progress in the Octavia. I have more fun in the Fabia, and it feels faster, but the reality is, the octavia does what it does with no fuss or drama, and incredible grip. Mine is APR mapped to stage 2, with maybe 280 bhp now, and the chassis still performs very well, despite the extra power. I feel no need at all to upgrade the suspension.

Just to add also, my mate has a Cupra Mk 3 which is stage 2 revo with a few mods, running maybe 250 - 260 bhp, and he can stay with the octy up to maybe 80, at which point I pull away like he has given up. Aerodynamically, the new octavia is far superior to older generation cars, such as the Fabia/Ibiza/Old octavia.

Wow, that's like 30bhp more than any other ibiza running a k03x turbo

Gotta love sarcasm. I said maybe, suggesting it was a guess on my part. I havent got a rolling road in my pocket you see, so I have to guess.

there seems to be a large crowd coming at me, think im gonna need some help :rifle: :bleh:

Personally i think although the Beeza's handling compared to most cars is suspect! you could beat an octy in corners n roundabouts........

Im gonna make it my mission to hunt down a octavia and see what happens!!

On the road possibly, as its whoever has the most bottle or he one who takes the biggest risks.

The old octy would IMO be left behind the Ibiza, but the new one, would im afraid be possibly better.

There's nothing between a Ibiza (mk4), and LCR round the corners, which is the same base as the old octy (i think). As seen on trackdays.
