Meppershall Beds.
and how long has it taken to find this out?
worrying, isn't it, that we can all discover stuff almost by accident...
must give the hill assist another go, remembering to really press down on brake first.

The sat nav is fkn useless. Nowhere near as good as last one. And that wasn't brilliant. [:@]

Just been looking at one in Halfords Tom Tom and Garmin both £79 with high resolution displays and colour
So looking at those That must have been Seats Price Limit for such Low resolution good job it was a free upgrade as would not like to think I had paid £495 for it

It does the job, I've had no problems with it. I enter a postcode and it will guide me there, sometimes I think it must be pissed but then I'll enter a waypoint or two that I know will be quicker, but that's rare. It's not the prettiest and they couid have improved the audio instructions with a bit more editing. Turn half left or right is not a valid instruction, but that's the translation for you, it should be bear left or right. There are a few other bizarre instructions but I got those on my Lexus too. It has far better phone support with images than many I have seen, although SWMBO hates the one it displays for her, not the car's fault that's what I put on my phone.:D

All in all, it effectively came free for the British market so nothing there to complain about either. IF I'd had to pay for it then I may agree it's not too good, but for free?

I'll clarify my 'fkn useless' comment regarding the sat nav. Compared to the previous RNS 315 unit I find the current sat nav is -
1. Not as user friendly.
2. The voice is not as clear
3. Cannot say words correctly
4. Cannot say road numbers properly - was in Worcester yesterday and her version of the A4440 was hilarious.
5. The unit has defaulted to a German map twice in a week.
6. The graphics are not as good.
7. It's too slow to load- the RNS was instant.
8. The media system itself is poor. If you've been listening to iPod, turn engine off, when you start up again you have to reselect iPod, something you didn't have to on RNS.
Now if this was a first attempt you could live with it, but it isn't. It should be smoother, slicker than the RNS unit. It isn't.
As for 'free' - yes, it came within the spec of the car and wasn't ordered as an extra. However, the car cost £28k so I'd hardly call it 'free'. Either way, you expect something fitted to a brand new vehicle to not only work, but work better than something in a 2-3 year old vehicle, 'free' or not

My unit keeps turning from SD card to Bluetooth audio on its own. Switch car off with SD card playing, get back in later, start engine and there's only silence because it has switched to Bluetooth and there's nothing connected.

I only tried the phone once and it just said "an error occurred, please try again".

The shuffle mode plays the same song over and over, yet the older RCD-510 unit in my Golf never did this.

I only use the nav to find petrol stations now, as it's too dim witted to find much else!

People might like to try here maps just gone free on android. Maps can be downloaded and stored on the device and so needs no wireless or data connection. Here maps used to be called navteq.
So free phone, free maps and leave the display on music or car data or better still do a back to back comparison

It's a bit annoying that it sucks. I mean really, the wholesale cost price for a standard no frills but functioning satnav system for the UK market must be about $100 at most. So I find it a bit sad they couldn't stretch to that.

Oh well, it's easy enough to mount my phone and use that instead.

I'm in full agreement. Much rather use my phone with google maps (when in UK). If roaming and not wanting to use data then I have found mapfactor with the free OSM mapping to be great. You can also use it with tomtom maps at a cost. Free maps seem great to me though.

I agree about the Sat nav, not great really.
Gave it a good test when I went to collect my wheels from Huddersfield and it kept trying to divert me here there and everywhere on the way there, although the M1 was closed due to an accident so it was kind of doing it's job.

After leaving Huddersfield on the return trip, it sent me down a country lane, pitch black but nice tarmac road so thought ok, it's a nice cut through, then the road started getting bumpier with pot holes, then farm houses, then tried to take me through a hairpin bend into a field!

At that point I decided to turn around and find another route as it was only half a mile or so.
One of the locals came out and after a quick chat, she said that loads of people end up there with satnav directions leading them there.
She mentioned that there is a way through, but only in a 4x4

There are some cheap navs in Halfords as said and I was going to get the Garmin 2508LMT which is still £99 which I think is a good price, but I managed to get a 2598LMT-D from Amazon on their Black friday deals for the same price :)

I have an old Garmin Nuvi 200w which still works, battery needs replacing and maps must be 4 years out of date but would still trust it to get me to my destination faster than the inbuilt nav.

As for the cubby hole, I found that the first week of owning the car as I was routing the wiring for the dash cam.
By the book, the fuse box should be behind there, but obvious now that it's on the other side behind the glove box :)

It's alive, it's alive !!

Turned ignition on, car told me the battery is needing changed on the key fob.
Funny how the dealer didn't stock them (on back order) but a trip to home bargains sorted that one out for 99p :p

So car tells me when to take a break, where the petrol station is, when its icy, when I'm drifting out of lane, when my key fob battery is going, etc etc etc.
Just waiting for it to tell me when to take a p**s and when my tea is ready

If you have heated seats, any moistness will result in "you need a toilet break" , "get a room" or "stop it you mucky boy" coming up on the display depending on the chemical analysis :D
