Hiya

I am posting on behalf of a friend who has a Seat Ibiza, 52 plate, she bought it from the dealer in February 06 and since then, she has had it break down on 4 occasions for the same problem, the coil pack.

She's been told that there are 4 coil packs in her car and that it is not finally the last one that has gone.

Has anyone else had similar problems??

Is it true that there are 4 coil packs or is the garage ripping her off?

Yes the car will have either 3 or 4 coilpacks depending on the model. These are unfortunately prone to failure. They are however covered by a 5 year warranty which some people have been told is limited to 60k miles although my Dad's just had one replaced at 72k

The coilpacks are there in place of the distributor cap and HT leads found in older cars

yep my 1.2 had one fail at 30k miles and they were replaced, so people drive brand new top of therange ibiza's off forcourt and one goes they are a weak point and only honda seem to have got them 100percent reliable, lots of car owners at work hae this problem all the time so its not just seat and vw

My mate has had 3 out of the four on his car fail (mk3 1.8T), so could well be the last coil pack, is it exactly the same fault??
