No plastic engine cover?

I opened the bonnet on my new car today, to familiarise myself with the various bits and pieces (and work out how easy to change the intake pipe thing and the air filter).

Anyway, I dont have a big plakky cover over my engine! I can see pipes and stuff and things. I rang White Duff and the sales guy tells me they dont come with them anymore. Is this right or is it the usual salesmans crap?

funny you should mention that, just got a polo as a hire car, band new basic model 1.2 12v, that had no engine cover either, just though it had gone walkies previously to me getting it, but thinking about it, who would want a 1.2 engine cover

Ok, can we look at this another way?

Anyone got a diesel Ibiza WITH an engine cover? What purpose does it have? Does it kill the engine noise? Is it worth investing in one? TBH I cant see me standing there with the bonnet open admiring the plastic ;) Maybe it saves weight?

yep they only have them on the fr and cupra now i belive saying about the 1.2 not having one where is the airfilter now as that was in the engine cover housing!!!!!!

His is a brand new car matey, my old 1.2 12v beeza on a 04 plate did, as does my FR TDi now!

Weight saving, hmmm might have to take mine off :D

Every little helps :p

My old 03 plate TDI Sport had one. As said previously it doesn't do much aside from make the engine bay look a bit tidier and if you're very unlucky it'll just rattle against stuff.

I actually dont like the plate my self, is it safe to just take off and leave it off?

you dont need them on i believe, like it has been said, they are there just to make the engine bay look tidier and not as messy. people do run round with them off.

have taken mine off a couple of times and the engine does sound louder, but is only noticeable when the engine is on with the bonnet up and standing in front of it i find.

Ive taken my engine cover off. As it rubbed and vibrated against the Forge Strut brace :(

Looks nicer with it off ;)
