Morning,

bought myself one of those BT scantool type devices that use apps on pcs/iphones/android phones to display as much info as you want as well as fault codes ect. Just wondering(have not looked yet but it wont be far from drivers steering wheel) where the OBD port is located on these, is it in the recess under the light controls?

I will let you guys know how/if it works. Its an ELM327 BT device if anyone is interested. I bought mine from a UK Seller just incase off 'the Bay'

Thanks

Jay

Below the headlight switch theres a little handle, just yank that panel off and you'll be presented with the port :)

Which app will you be using? The torque on the android is very good. Need to start using mine more though. Cant plug in the adaptor and,put the trim back on so reluctant in case the clips start breaking

Thanks for quick replies and apolgies for not searching I was on my phone. Adam yeah I have torque lite. Guessing you have the Pro one? I wasnt going to buy it until I knew the lite version works but if it works on your Cupra then I cant see why it wont on mine. We will see anyway im going to go try it out in the next hour. Its a shame the cover wont fit over it I wouldnt of thought it would take up that much space. Nevermind. Will figure something out.

regards

Ignition on, ELM327 in, all lights flick on in sequence's leaving power red led on. I try to paid with phone via Bluetooth, it pairs but wont connect? Cant get any further.

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Jas

Goes to show a UK seller with good feedback still comes up with problems.

No you cant tell what level it is at. There is an option saying time since dtc clear but dont know if that is anything to do with the dpf. As for getting it connected, I have done exactly like you said. Pair your phone with the car then go into the app and wait for connection. It can take a while once on the app but eventually she gets there

Does a Regen Light not come on in the DFP Cars?

Anyway I got it to work, did take a few attemps and I installed 3/4 other OBDscanner apps but once one of them was working Torque seemed to pick it up. Another thing I think it has a problem with is SEAT BT keeps bugging my phones Bluetooth for a connection.

Works very well, even the free one has intake temp/ambient temp/Engine Coolant temp/ Boost/ Load/revs/speed/throttle position/ Timing advance and many others that would have more use for hardcore testing.

What PSI is the stock turbo supposed to be boosting too? I read a few reports that while the motion of the gauge is accurate the pressure is not. Mine is going to 19PSI at say 3/4 throttle then settling at around 14.5-15.5psi

What is this regen thing? I've read it before, I know it as it cleans itself, but what is being cleaned?

Many diesel cars are fitted with a DPF ( diesel particulate filter ) - it removes soot from the exhaust gasses. After a while the filter starts to block up with soot and it needs to clean itself.

If you do long distances - the exhaust will get hot enough to burn off the soot and clean the DPF. If not - the cars ecu will force a regen to heat up the exhaust and burn off the soot.

Unfortunately there is no warning that this is happening until you come to end your journey and the engine is holding a 1000/1100 rpm idle as it regens the dpf.

You then have to drive further ( waste of time and fuel ) or hope your next trip is long enough to finish off the regen before the regen warning comes on and forces you to go for the drive or resk a dealer visit that is not covered by warranty.

Does a Regen Light not come on in the DFP Cars?

YES but only as a warning when the dpf is crytically blocked and you MUST go for a 20+ minute drive at a steady pace over 38mph and around 2000 rpm.

I would like to know a regen has started/happening so i could change my route and finish the regen.

Here
I would like to know a regen has started/happening so i could change my route and finish the regen.

Asked the question to SEAT UK as I got fed up of coming off the motorway and the car doing a regen about 5 min after (twice last month it did it). They said the light cannot be programmed to come on/flash during a passive regen, although SEAT dealers said the fogs couldn't be disabled, but someone did it.

Just a little update after some digging I saw on a review that Seat have boosted the Turbo to 2150mbar (up from 2000 on the 170ps versions). Assuming they are including normal air pressure that gives around 1.1bar this equates to 15.95psi. So the figures Torque was producing for boost do seem quite accurate (19psi peak dropping to 14.5-15.5 average)

Going to fix up a holder of some sort for my phone while im using the item. I find the coolant temp and intake/ambient temps handy too, the rest is just information and doesnt have any real use(yet at least) unless I was testing changes to the engine.

Sounds like a decent bit of kit. A couple of questions:
Do you need in car bluetooth for this to connect?

Does it display exhaust gas tempetature?
(I'm thinking this would be useful in light of the lack of DPF regen status as you could monitor the temp for your journey and maybe get an indication of potential passive regen)

Cheers

The free version doesnt have exhaust gas temp (as far as im aware) the full one has even more info so its possible. If you google "torque bhp app" you should get to a site made by the maker (Ian Hawkins I think) and i think there will be a full list on that site.

Worked fine within 30seconds again today. seems first go was hardest. No the device is Bluetooth and the phone pics up the device and you pair with it, then you tell the app what bluetooth device to get its info from(the one I have is named quite easily OBDII on my bluetooth) and then the phone connects to it and displays as much or little info as you want on one of 6 scrollable tabs
