I would buy a lottery ticket mate your luck has got to change soon!

Nope, not changed

Took the car back to the garage today just for a final check and guess what?

They found that there was a minute leak of oil from the head gasket still FFS [:@]

It was decided that as it was so small and rather than me lose the car again they would try something called Wynn's oil stop leak.
I was not too sure as I thought what would happen to my valves etc but they assured me that this stuff was compatible for my engine and oil type.
I was instructed to take the car for a good run come back and the additive would be applied.
This happened and I drove home.

http://www.caarbitz.co.uk/Wynn's_Engine_Stop_Leak_325Ml_50664.htm

I have to go back in two weeks for another check up.

I feel somewhat unhappy as you can understand, I mean how can a brand new block and gasket fail? the head was skimmed and I have the guarantee that it was done to highest standards.

Makes me wonder if there is an oil leak, what else could be leaking on it??????

Disgusting. Its not been done right. You still effectively have a blown head gasket.

Money back and go elsewhere or fix to 100% standard.

:-( yeah I kind of feel like this, I mean the leak is really small, says I would not notice it and it might seal itself but wanted to try this stuff.
If it does not work a new gasket is still on the cards he said that today.
But, I just can't believe my luck with all this.
You would think paying out £3k would have fixed everything like this.

Jim, I have some leave in about a weeks time, do you think your mate might be able to take a look then?
I have noticed that the engine temp gets up to working level 90' within 2 miles now, not sure if this is due to outside temp but I recall it being longer not long after the engine was done.

One thing I note, they have not used G28 coolant, they say that what they use is VW approved but would this make a significant difference to anything?

I thought g12 ++ would be the correct coolant for your engine as that's the latest spec and is what's used on my 20vt engine, id assume it's the same on yours.

Hi mike yeah that shouldn't be a problem what dates can you make it down this way? I will give him a call, let me know when it is and I'll arrange, he seriously won't rip you off won't even charge you to take a look, will just advise you and tell you what he would do to fix.

Jim

Just an update, took the car back for inspection and its still leaking.
I have to take it for a 30 min inspection by the supplier of the gasket and the garage will then be fitting a new one for me.
No cost of course!
I'll let you know how I get on.
Maybe this time I'll come away with a car in good order?

Ive bad luck this week. The owner before me had the head gasket done and dont think they had the head skimmed ;( so its warped on me this week after 7months of owning it. Im paying £800 for Head skimmed and pressure tested , Competition Head gasket kit , Timing belt , water pump , seals , Coolant , Oil , and other bits and bobs which need replacing with it :( not happy!

Lucky the Leon

Continuing the saga of Lucky the Leon.

Its back at the garage today to have the head gasket replaced after they could not stop the leak by other means.
The leak has always been very slight but after a 200 miles round trip the next day there was very small oil mark on the drive!

Chap just phoned me to say its all stripped down but they could not find any issues with the gasket that would have caused the leak

The one it had was a VW one, this time he is going to SEAT to get one.

I can't imagine there will be any difference will there?

Have to say I am not happy now, would have preferred to hear there was a small fault with the gasket so I 'knew' there was a reason.

Remember, its a brand new block and the head was skimmed and tested.

:wtf:

it sounds to me your mechanic is a waste of space bud sorry !!!! a new build with problems !!

Trouble is, it was not right, and they are bound to fix it for me which they are doing.
What else can I do but let them try?
Surely setting aside the tools and facilities, replacing a head gasket should be plain sailing?
Like I say :wtf:

Hi, got the car back today!

Says they did 30 miles in it and then checked and all looks OK.
Fitted with the SEAT gasket and the manager said it looked slightly different than the VW one.
Can't myself see how there would be a difference.

OK, when I scanned the engine for codes there were a number, but these looked to be as a result of the work that had been done.
Cleared them all and took it for a good run.

Result = no codes :) which is how she went in.

Never sure about the readiness test? but there were initially a number of fails, but this reduced after the run.

Showing as a fail now are:

Catalyst
EVAP SYS
SEC Air SYS

I have a long'ish drive tomorrow so will re scan and see if they go.

Thoughts and opinions please chaps?
