When i fitted my FMIC this weekend i noticed a lot of oil in the pipes off the inlet manifold, i know this is normal but it did seem a lot.

Just wondering if an oil catch tank is worth doin and what are the benefits of fitting one?

yes. and it stops oil getting inside the motor, gumming the throttle body and getting blown back down the intake over the MAF (ibiza) from the DV venting.

Where does most of the oil come from Does it come from the crank breather?

I was on the phone to turbo dynamics a few weeks ago and they tell me that most of the oil comes through from the turbo bearings that gets pushed through by oil pressure.

So my question is would the catch tank help?

most of the oil comes from the rocker breather and crankcase breather.
turbo dynamics should look inside the vent pipes more often :p

surely if you have a a CAI witha seperate crankcase breather pipe anyway this oild should not find its way back into the engine, or am i missing the point somewhat

You are maybe confusing the aux air pump pipe into the airbox with an engine breather which it is'nt.
Crankcase breather and rocker cover breather pipe vent back to the intake pipework between MAF and turbo inlet.

So it seems it might be worth getting one coz there seemed to be a lot of oil there.

How much are they and where can you get one from. Seems good if it stops possible problems.

Right i really need to sort this out. Took my MAF off last night to clean it and the oil and crap in the TIP was unreal.

What connections do i put the tank onto? Off the elbow thats on the rocker? Or the one to the tip to that funny mushroom thing? Could i put it inline on this pipe, block the tip connection off and put a breather on the catch tank? Sorry for the lack of knowledge, i just wanna get this right.

the breather pipe going to air box can just have a normal breather filter put on (bout £8) then the pipe from the rocker into the catch tank, job done. One thing I would suggest is get a baffled catch tank as mine breathes really heavy and as a result gets bogging, I should of done this when i had mine made

Thanks for that.

So will need to block up the connection on th tip where that mushroom thing is now and put a breather on the end of it so it doesnt breath back into the tip at all?

Mike, have you got any pics of yours?

tai, cant post attachements tho? whats yer e-mail, maybe u can chuck them up then?
