Oil Change

I've had a notification come up on my display saying my car needs an oil change in 700 miles, which will equate to a few weeks of driving.

A couple of questions- is it better to get this done by a dealer? I have one local to me but I don't think it's great based on a couple things I've read. If it's the sort of thing that's fine to get done by a normal garage, how much should I be expecting to pay? And if I can provide the oil myself (as I assume it'll be a tad cheaper, is this suitable (184 2.0 diesel FR)

Thanks!

If it is on variable servicing, ie around 16-18000 mile, it will need expensive long life oil. I believe this to be VW 507 spec & would suspect the car will show it requires a service in 1-2000 mile, I would get the service done at the same time as the oil change.
If it is fixed servicing ie 10000 mile a good quality oil is required and would usually be changed during a service

Thanks!

I got mine done today with Castrol oil that you have in the link. There was longlife oil in it from the start. A guy I know is the master technician in the local Seat dealership and had no issues with the oil.

Thanks for the replies, I'll check my service book later to see when it was last done.

OK so at present my next service is showing as due in 9700 miles. Given that the last service was approx 9000 miles ago, I'd assume that indicates it's on a long life however 'long life service' is marked as no on the last service. Oil was changed on the last service though.

Below are the two services it has had, and it's currently just shy of 29,000. Based on all this, I assume the oil I posted in my first post is ok- how much should I be expecting to be charged labour wise for an oil change? I've no idea if it's a 1 hour job or a 4 hour job.

I've called a couple of garages to get a quote, some are happy to do just an oil change (approx £86 incl oil), others say it would have to be a full on service.

I called seat- they have told me it's due for a major service given that it's almost hit 10,000 miles since the last service. (£269 which obviously includes the oil change).

Based on the details in my pics above, can someone let me know whether I can just do an oil change or whether I need to take it in for a full on service? The car servicing info in the MFD says I need an oil change in 300 miles and that my next service isn't due for another 9300 miles.

If it were me and my car, I'd get its oil changed now (normal oil, no long life) and then again in one year or 10000 miles whichever comes first as part of the 'big service'.

I was brought up on 1 year/10k miles. None of this long life for me; I think it's all marketing nonsense.

Thanks, I'm definitely getting the oil done now, it's really whether it needs to be serviced now alongside it or whether I go with the MFD info and get it serviced in 9000 miles as that suggests. Even the service book says 'as per display' for the next service

The place we get our work van serviced says they will do it for £27 inc vat for the labour and I can provide my own oil so I will likely go with that.

I got a 4L Castrol Edge titanium (rather than 5L) for £32. I have approx half a 1L bottle remaining so hopefully the two together will suffice.
