Oil consumption

Hi all need some advice please...

Just checked the oil on my 1.4 Ibiza Sport. Its near the minimum mark on the dipstick. Problem is that I put just over half a litre in it a month ago. (it was showing the same minimum and came up to 3/4).

Its only driven about 8-900 miles since then.

There is no oil underneath and no oil smoke from the exhaust at any time.....

Surely this sort of consumption is not normal??
The car is on a 52 plate and has 56000miles.
The oil I put in last was Castrol Edge 5w30.

Are you 100% certain you checked it both times while parked on a level surface ?

Has the coolent level changed? does the oil look like mayonaise? the only thing I can think of that would explain that was a head gasket.

Muddyboots: yep, did make sure it was level or as level as I could get....if anything it was leaning very slightly to the right (I checked with a spirit level on several different points as I had this thought too)

beezanick: Checked the water and its perfect, nothing wrong with it at all. Oil colour on dipstick is good too.

Can't see any obvious reason, unless the previous time that I topped it up it wasn't level. Am going to check it again soon and see if it has changed at all.
