Oil for leon fr tdi

Took my car in this morning to get oil change, frrom my mates garage, at has come up on the reg that the leon fr tdi uses bulk 10W 40 semi synthetic????
Phoned Scott(with look alike ibiza cupra)'s brother who is a VAG mechanic, he says it's right enough they use 10w 40 semi synthetic long life???? I thought it was 5w30???? Can someone give me any insight?

I thought it was 5w30, 507.00 spec...

The oils in this section meet the VW 507.00 specification. These oils are suitable for almost all VAG diesel engines from 2000 onwards with extended service intervals, unitary injector pumps and also Pumpe-Düse ("PD") engines.

Excludes V10, R5 engines and VW Commercial vehicles without fitted DPF (diesel particulate filters) – these must use a 506 01 specification oil.

what??? that's the thing i don't know!!! i ain't meaning to piss use about, i was under the same impression as youselfs! Phoned seat and they said 5w 40 or 5w30......long life pd oil. There doesnt seem to be a definitive answer lol! THink i'll got to Halfords 20 miles away and get some, can you guys tell me the name of the castrol edge stuff for the car? Cheers guys

Is it CR or PD?

I read my manual the other day, its not written particularly well in this regard, you need to be using fully synth 505.01 spec minimum.

What engine is it? Don't some of the newer Leons use the CR engine, instead of the PD?

Any chance guys?? My oil change is at 3 oclock so gonna need to be sharp and dont wanna rag the motor to halfords with this s**t oil in it!!!

ALright mate it's the PD 170 leon fr tdi, mines the prefacelift 58

Just looking in my manual and it isnt that clear either. Diagram shows:

SAE 5W-30/ 5w-40
SAE 10W-30/ 10W-40

and fuel specifications:

Diesel: VW 505 01/ VW 507 00/ VW506 01
Diesel with DPF: VW 507 00

When i needed to top mine up i went to halfords and bought the castrol oil that met the VW 507 00 spec (i have the CR engine with DPF), also stated on the label that it was for use with cars with a DPF.

10w 40 semi synthetic oil does not go in a VAG tdi engine.

VW505.01 5w 40 is the minimum spec you need. After that you may use VW506.01 0w 30 (obsolete spec now but still available), or the latest spec VW504/507 5w 30.

Do not use 10w 40 oil.

Edit: just seen this is an FR which has a DPF, so the only oil suitable is VW504/507 and 5w 30.

I was told if you use the long life pd oil (what seat say to use) and whats in mine, some people are having cam wear problems at around 100k,

Anyone else heard this????
