How can a set of brakes that cost £555 at dealer prices be better than those that cost £1K (for the Brembo GT kit)....

http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=186468

Over to you! :D

MK2 Leon Cupra does 'brake' very well according to independent road tests..........but as i've said before a better controlled chasis (uprated dampers reducing nose dive / lift etc) helps considerably........so is the better braking the larger discs and 'better' brakes? or my guess would be the Mk2 chasis is far more rigid, copes well with the extra power also helps these brakes too.

Sunday 9th November booked for Donny!! That gives you time to devise a cunning plan to get permission from the missus!!

OK operation 'i've got a cunning plan' underway.........although I'll wait till after my holiday (week after next) the wife may be in a better mood ;)

Gear box will be staying as it is just now. I will re torque these bolts and keep an eye on these.
If I had known this was going to be a problem I would have coated it when I bought the car.

Goodridge sounds like plan. Kepp everything tight:)

Well my plans may have changed now that I can get replacement OEM brembos for £225 each: http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?p=2059482#post2059482

I may replace the current ones, keep the brakes as they are, get track wheels and tyres, new suspension and ARBs and strip a bit more weight if I can... :D

I like the sound of resolving the lift and dipping during breaking - this would reduce the stresses on the brakes and give a much smoother ride and more confident drive through Donington.

I'll release the winged monkeys to do some research on the Bilstein B16s and see whether it is worth getting the fitted before the 9th Nov. I am hoping to be trackside on the 14th Sept but no cancellations as yet - may just turn up and hope someone gets black flagged for being too noisy...

Bring the missus along!!!! :D

What do you mean by a redress kit?

What preparations do you have in mind for your next track day?

Hi JS. The next one I have booked is 9th Nov (At Donny) so I could sort ARBs, suspension and possibly track tyres by then??!?!? 3 week delay on the tyres and wheels - still looking into the suspension options under your influence :D

I don't really know TBH
I need the pipe that joins the twin pots and will see what else is on offer to change at the same time

Well if I replace mine with new ones then mine will be up for grabs... Are your brakes noty operational at present or are you just doing maintenance?

I have heard good things about Bilstein stuff B12, B14 and B16s, the KWs you mention are a late contender so i'll do some research and see how adjustable/rated they are. The Bilsteins could be easily stiffened up for track use and softened off when I drive home. That and their reputation was what led me to look into those initially but i am more concerned for track handling than day to day road comfort.

I am looking for the car to be almost totally trackworthy within 2 years, completely stripped and hardcore. I'd even look to drive it in the bare minimum of clothing :D

I am not sure if you feel the same but it's quite overwhelming taking on a track project like this. But exciting too!!

I need to book in my bike Direct Access so I can extend my modest fleet to include a nice two wheeled project next year!

How are you getting on with the book? i have been practicing convergance points to measure entry speed into corners. If the vanishing point moves away from you at a consistent pace then speed is perfect for the corner, if it is faster then you are ok too as road is opening up, if it comes towards you very quickly you are proper screwed!!!! :D It actually works really well and helps me judge my driving and the moment to bring the power back in.

I have started the book but due to me not being offshore for 6 weeks plus I have had lots of other things to do.
I'm very keen to get through it and pick your brains about it too.
If its a totally track focussed set up your looking at then you might also want to look into

He he, no probs JS. I am struggling to get all my reading done at the moment. Revising for my bike theory test too and work takes up 99% of my life.

I am looking to get a new car in two years time for work and normal every day life use. In the mean time I want to make mine much more of a track weapon. Plan is to sell the bits I take out like seats and that to fund the improvements but ultimately I will not need insurance for the car as it won't matter if it gets pranged as I am just using it as a vehicle for learning.

Be nice to do all my own maintenance one day and understand the impact small changes to the set-up of the car can make.

I wish I had deep pockets and more time... I'd spend days at Donington practising if I could :D

Hey JS!

Apologies for going dark recently. I don't know where the time has gone - work has been so busy I have just been going to bed when I get in! It's not going to let up until next year either  Leaves me little time for anything else!

How are things with you? Any progress on the gear box? Any other news?

Nothing changed my end, car is still as before. I am holding off on spending any money for now. I still owe £8k on the car and it seems silly to be spending money when I owe it so being sensible and clearing that first then I will decide what to do with her. I have no track days planned this year now - concentrating on getting my bike license. Doing some revision at the moment - i have to sit my theory test next month! Even worse than that there is a hazard perception aspect to it!

I am quite excited about getting the bike now, gone for a Triumph Street Triple in jet black! Leathers and helmet are chosen i just need to get the license!!!!

I did have the car detailed a couple of weeks ago - 99% of the scratches are gone now and she looks stunning. I'll post some pics when I get chance to go through them!

Thanks for the links by the way - those SuperL's were a good price!

Catch you soon! OJ

Not much changed, got a big list of bits to fit next month.
Gearbox is the same but with new oil in it.
I'm hoping the GB will last abit lonbger because I don't want to have to take it off till I can afford a Quaiffe diff:)
The bits are just replacement part apart from the TT rear wishbone bushes, R32 23mm front ARB and engine mount upgrade.
