Evening people, i want to fit an open cone filter to my 20vt FR. i had a look on saturday brieftly but didnt want to make a mess of things!
Basicaly, do i remove the airbox, filter and breather pipe?
I can see a screw from the airbox to the MAF, do i unscrew this and the airbox pulls free of the MAF?
I hope this isnt a repost, ive searched but i cant see anything that helps me directly!
Thanks

the mafs held to the airbox with two philips screws, remove these then pull the maf housing free of the airbox.

then the airbox is held in with a 10mm bolt next to the washer bottle, and possibly another behind the battery. Then just pull it free :)

If its the same as tdi lol

yeah 70mm maf on the fr. I tried the dynatwist inducton kit on mine some time ago but opted for a green panel filter and smoothed airbox in the end. Heatsoaks a big problem with the mk4

well, its now fitted and makes some wierd and wonderful noises, it seems to suck like a hooker lol and the standard DV is quite loud too. stil gonna get the panel filter, just that i an open cone one knocking round in the garage

You need a Forge TIP and a Forge DV now and the sound will be so much better.

I went from a Green panel filter to a open cone filter and prefer the open cone.

im on the case for a 007p lol, this was just a quick free mod for me.
Is the TIP easy to do? im not that experienced with cars but willing to try!
whatis that a blue bit a reducer for your filter? if so what size is it?

Forge TIP is quite easy to fit, very straight forward once you get into it.

No reducer from MAF to filter. The blue thing you can see is just a cable tie attaching the filter the support bracket I made. lol

ah ok. i couldnt tell whether it was silicone or not lol.
cheers for the advice, i may give the TIP a go when the weather gets better!

Nothing at all mate, I have no cold air feed.

You wont have any problem with heat soak as the Seat Sport intercooler is so good.

After a 4 hour drive coming back from P-Torque the fitler was ice cold to touch. Same thing after a good logging session too :D

thats what i like to hear!! save me running a cold air feed :) can focus my time on re-fitting my splitter!! bloody snow!!! lol

Damoegan, what did do with the standard cold air feed? Why not run it into the side of the cone?

Its sitting in the loft.

I didnt use it coz it would a) look crap as I have removed all the SAI and EGR/Combi valve to clean the look of the engine bay. b) I dont think it realy needs a cold air feed.

But I might try and squeez some ducting down the side of the battery and down to the front bumper when I can be bothered.
