Well ordered my LSD on thursday should have it early this week! Been speaking to Ric who has the pelequin diff and he has informed me of this:

As of Vehicle production date March 01 2004 the stock differential ring gear diameter has been reduced from 114mm to 113mm to allow for a larger rivet
The old bolt kit is 11.5mm diameter and the new would be 12.25mm

Now ive just been on quiafe's web site and had a look at the one i ordered (over the phone) and realised that the stock ring gear is still 114mm and the bolt kit is 11.5mm!

My car is a 54 plate, will i be affected by this as Ric's is an 05 plate? I did specify the box was 02J and when on the phone they never mentioned any of this to me so im now thinking ive got the wrong fitment of diff coming

Don't know if that's of any use to you? It bascially tells you what your VIN number means. Theres a couple of links in the thread which might be of help.

One of the numbers in your VIN code denotes build year, so if it shows up as 2004 then you've a 3 in 4 chance of the kit being the wrong one unfortunately.

Thats the way it looks to me, hope it's not the case, but if it is, sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

You never know though, your car may have been built in the first quarter of 2004 but not registered til 54 plate.

Hope everything works out for you. :)

Yeah pretty interesting those codes mines was built in Martorell, Spain! I know Rash cupra ran a quiafe diff but that would have been a long time ago! Suppose ill need to wait untill it arrives then get everything checked out.

02J was the older gearbox and the 02R (our gearbox) replaced it with the new ring gear diameter....

As far as I know that is....

Gearbox code: JYF Type: Manual Number: 02RE. These codes are for a BBU engine code

Just off the phone to Vince and he talked me through the changes and assures its the right diff but he said worse case scenario he phones quaife and get the diff swapped for the right one.

Got to remove 1 driveshaft and look for a 6mm allen bolt if it has this then its the right diff!

Ok thought it was at an actual garage.

Other things I remember as well, more PITA than VW not marking the gearbox that they have increase the bolt diameter by.

5th gear..... was a PITA to get off, took over 48hr to even move with gear pullers.

Read the instructions.. yeah we all know but some parts may not be required....also

gearbox oil I went for 3L of the Silkolene Syn 5 gear oil

Its a garage that will be fitting the diff just need to take a drive shaft off to check 1 allen bolt if it has a 6mm allen bolt then the diff is good to go apparently. Then ill be putting it into a garage for fitting

Just to let everyone know the 02J Quiafe diff does not fit the Ibiza as the holes on the crown wheel are larger there for will not fit. It can be fitted if you change the crown wheel over but thats around £200-£300 so wouldnt say its worth it.
