My Ovni Yello Leon Cupra is 2 1/2 years old and i have recently noticed that it is starting to lose its colour. It's faded to a lighter yellow and doesn't look as good as it used to.

I spent 2 1/2 hours cleaning it with special fluid to take off all the tar and smooth out the paint, then waxed it. It now shines but the colour is still not as deep as it was.

Has anyone any ideas on what i can do? it annoys me every time i look at it now.

Any chance Seat will cover it under their 3 year paint warranty?

i will fade slightly but i cant see its faded that much! if it has maybe seat will help you out if you bought it from them let me, other than that maybe t-cut original to bring paintwork back to normal, failing that they do a yellow t-cut i think, maybe a colour magic range but that will sure brighten it up, firstly use the t-cut origianl you will be suprised at the results just work the polish in then buff it off, the cloth should be turning yellow ;)

Thanks Riddick_m3  , t-cut sounds like a good plan.

But will my car be lacquered ontop of the paint? in which case will t-cut only make it shiny and not take off the top layer of paint?

You're right its not like its faded completely but it has faded enough for it to be noticeable.

The "special stuff" i referred to earlier is:

Meguiars Step 1 - Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

Step 2 is polish
Step 3 is wax

I didn't buy it originally because i didn't want to have to do 3 coats, i'm far too busy to find a period of time long enough to apply 3 products!

do you find that applying step 2 before the was makes much of a difference? does it make the colour look deeper?

I'm no expert on paint but I think if you use the 3 step method you actually clean the paint, then polish it, then wax it. This will feed the paint and make it look alot better. I had a red car that faded a bit. After waxing it you could actualy see the bits you had missed as they were duller.

I think you should see the colour come back up. Its alot of work but if you're not happy with the fading you will have to try it. Even do a small part with the 3 stepps. If it doesn't work then you don't have to bother doing the whole car??

My mechanic friend at work has just given me a bottle of Turtle Wax Safe Cut.

I think i'll try that on the roof and see if it makes any difference, if not i'll have a go with t-cut original.

Thanks everyone!

Ovni yellow is laquered. I have found out the hard way (I bought the wrong paint). T cut wont bring the colour back, it will just scratch the laquer.

I'm going to speaking with my dealership tomorrow ref the faded paint aspect as mine is also a Leon Cupra 03 plate and it's faded quite badly.

Will see what they say

Yes I'd give it a good t-cut first, you can get some t-cuts with yellow in it to bring back some of the goodness. Try that and see the result. Make sure you do all the necessary polishing afterwards to protect the finish also from UV light.

Cool, let me know what your dealer says MikeyS. They reckon the paintowrk is covered against manufcaturing defects for 8 years so surely that covers fading.
